Re: Joey merlino and others busted
In your opinion Chucky, do you think Merlino is good for the Philly Gang?

Would you agree that Mazzone is better for their organization?

Not to get off point ... But the interesting thing you pointed out was that Joe Mouse, Lucibello and Turchi were made by a guy that Merlino and Chang didn't recognize as Boss. Did Merlino re-make these guys to make them legit as made guys(accept Turchi he got trunked)..? I know that Philly has always been dysfunctional after Bruno. But its odd that Merlino and Co. would accept guys made by a guy they didn't recognize as Boss.? In NY they would have had to remake these guys to make it legit.Chucky wrote:Stanfa was a clown, so were the were morons he surrounded himself with, the guy had no business running anything other than having support from the Gambinos. By the time he showed up, Ciancaglini and Merlino had sealed off the street tax and were pumping a lot of coke into South Philly. Stanfa had a bunch of low level Riccobene guys around him, he was making waiters and former cops because Mikey & Joey had the guys needed to put things back together, and the competent guys like Joe Mouse, Lucibello and Turchi used him for a button and jumped into Merlino's camp once they were made. He was in way over his head. NY support meant nothing by the early 90s anyhow, all the bosses up there were going down or were on the run. And the feds didn't need Merlino to add heat to LCN, that was happening anyway.JCB1977 wrote:NY appointed Stanfa and Stanfa had NY's support. Having a street war in the 1990's put local cops, state police and the Feds up the asses of LCN across the country because of his shenanigans. While I applaud your admiration for a 5'5 circus midget, he disrespected everything that LCN stood for...keeping it quiet, taking care of business in a less public way and for smiling at the cameras, enjoying the press taking photos of Geno's Cafe softball team...and now the little guy will be spending most of the rest of his life in lock up...see how loyal his wife is thenChucky wrote:You say disrespect for the rules, what rules did he break? All of that shit in the 90s could have been avoided had Piccolo just stepped aside and allow Ciancaglini & Merlino to run the show.
And don't give me that smart alec faggot shit about me "admiring" him, point out once in this discussion where I did so.
And you say he wouldn't make capo outside of Philly. Well, even though it's a nonsensical point, if he came up in NY or Chicago he would turned out different because he would have been a product of those areas, Philly was the wild west in the 80s and 90s and he's a product of that.

Merlino and Chang were also made by Stanfa.

Re: Joey merlino and others busted
The writing was on the wall, Ciancaglini and Merlino had a big crew and had completely taken over the street tax and a had big coke connect going through the JBM partnership. Piccolo had a bunch of older motherfuckers who were semi-retired and the young guys didn't pay him any mind, he just should have made them and let them take control because Stanfa coming in just ended up alienating the old heads from the Bruno/Scarfo era and the Ciancaglini/Merlino guys because he was an outsider.moneyman wrote:Great post Chucky, can you elaborate on the Piccolo situation and how he should have stepped aside to avoid all the bullshit in the 90s?

Re: Joey merlino and others busted
Well, Merlino was made by Stanfa so by that token he would have to been remade. They recognized Stanfa they just didn't think he should be boss because was an outsider and really was just a gofer when Bruno was around. Stanfa could have salvaged the situation, but he signed off on Joey Chang's attempt on Mikey Chang and it went to shit from there, things had calmed down before that happened.Rocco wrote:Not to get off point ... I forgot Merlino was made by Stanfa !! lol
Re: Joey merlino and others busted
Agree 100% with Chucky.
Stanfa was making guys just because they where italians he met at the mall.
Not for Nothing but if Merlino is a punk, I don't know what Stanfa is for allowing himself to be overthrown by 25 year old "punks"....

Best pic that describes Stanfa and his crew is that pic of him going to Court with his rag-tag crew of misfits. The fat irish driver, the steroid freak and some other squid. They looked like a freakshow. I'm no Merlino fan as I think he emulates hollywoods version of the flashy gangster rather then LCN. BUT Stanfa and his crew were a joke and looked it as well.Charlie wrote:Agree 100% with Chucky.

Re: Joey merlino and others busted
While I agree with all of that regarding Stanfa, my point was that the circus midget was a punk...and that is disrespectful to LCN and the rules set forth to keep things alive and well. I feel the same way about Gotti (except Gotti was much tougher than JM). And it's because of modern day guys like Joey that LCN is in as bad as shape as it is. RICO didn't help, but neither does flashing the n****r rich lifestyle at the Feds and the public.

In fairness to Stanfa he wasn't left with much to work with in 1991. In addition to the family being depleted most of what remained opposed him from the start. I've often wondered how things would turned out if everyone would have fallen in line behind and worked together to rebuild the family.

How much do you think the gang brings in per year?

LOL..no shit. But I'd still love to know as there have been reports in the past of many wiseguys struggling to make money in Philly...and I can't see how that is possible.Pogo The Clown wrote:JCB1977 wrote:How much do you think the gang brings in per year?

Re: Joey merlino and others busted
Things would have turned out differently had he not allowed Joey Chang to go after Mikey Chang, before that he appeased Mikey Chang and Merlino by making them and letting them do their thing without interference from his guys. Things were pretty calm, I mean there was tension, but before the attempt on Mikey Chang but they weren't sending hit crews to stalk each other, that was Stanfa's major fuck up...aside from blabbing for hours at a time at Avena's office.Pogo The Clown wrote:Rocco wrote:Best pic that describes Stanfa and his crew is that pic of him going to Court with his rag-tag crew of misfits.
