On the subject of this, Anti, or anyone, do you know if Salvatore Brunetti was at Rocco Sollecito's funeral? Brunetti had interests in the cafe where D'Onofrio was murdered, was on the Scoppa hitlist, and close to Vanelli.

My short answer is, I don’t know whether Brunetti attended any of Sollecito’s funeral arrangements because I don’t have any inside information about notable attendees. We’ve all noticed that when the deceased is a murder victim known to be involved in Italian organized crime in Quebec, sometimes there is very little reporting, as well as few images, as to which significant mourners were seen at the funeral home, church, or cemetery. And in the case of mourner Tony Van(n)elli, the only reason we know of his attendance at the funeral-home visitation for Sollecito — after the fact — is the mistaken-identity homicide of D’Onofrio.
I don’t really have a long answer but I do want to share a few details about the old Cotroni-Violi group members, their historic relationships with Quebec outlaw bikers, a possible rift within the old Cotroni-Violi group after the murder of Moreno Gallo, and the significance of the Sinatra (aka the Hillside Cafe; there is another establishment now at the Sinatra’s former address on Fleury East: Café Rossonero).
I’ll start off with an excerpt from Maria Mourani’s book written with and about Joe Di Mi Maulo’s daughter Milena, speaking below in the first person:
Tout comme mon père [Joe Di Maulo], les Cotroni entretenaient des relations avec les motards. Frankie [her husband, the son of Frank Cotroni Sr.] me fit faire la tournée des tables.
From Daniel Renaud’s June 3, 2016 article found at https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/just ... e-rase.php:
I suspect that Renaud knew, just as Andrew Scoppa knew, that Van(n)elli sold out Moreno Gallo by providing Stefano Sollecito (“Sauce”) with Gallo’s coordinates in Mexico. Scoppa is quoted in the below excerpt from Séguin and Thibault’s book Inside the Montreal Mafia: The Confessions of Andrew Scoppa:
Sauce had [Moreno Gallo] killed using a friend drug dealer that had contacts in Mexico to get the job done. He also went to see Tony Vanelli for information on Moreno’s whereabouts, ’cause the two of them were friends and business partners over there in Mexico. Vanelli and Moreno used to go to the same restaurants and places in Acapulco. They had houses there too. Vanelli knew where Moreno goes. So they got the info from Vanelli. Vanelli was very lucky. He was supposed to die too. But he sold Moreno, and that’s why he got a pass.

Re: Montreal Mafia status - Post Rizzuto Era
Very possible Vanelli is on the outs with this old Cotroni-Violi group. I think there's been a division within this group for awhile, one that can be described as those who fell in line with the Rizzuto-Sollecito group and those who still pay homage to the old Cotroni-Violi regime. I think Vanelli, Mucci and his group are the ones who aligned themselves with the Rizzuto-Sollecito group, while others like Cotroni Jr, the Cotroni grandkids and a few others are doing their own thing. The division may even go farther within this group with certain people like the Agostino-Albanese group/network being more aligned with the Violi brothers out of Hamilton. They paid them a piece from their tobacco smuggling ring and when arrested one of the Violi bros was driving a vehicle registered in Agostino's name.

I believe Mucci took over much of what Gallo and Di Maulo represented in Montreal and he became the main leader of what is this old Cotroni-Violi group. Mucci is said to have retired in late 2019/early 2020 and I'm not sure who, or if anyone, replaced him in the same capacity. It wouldn't surprise me if after his retirement there was a breakup within this group with some finding their place within other cells that operate in the area (Barberio, Oliverio-Lopez), and others being on their own, hence Brunetti stepping in to offer protection to some of them. Possibly the Gallo kids? Just one theory that may or may not hold water. The so-called "Calabrian" cell lost two of its most influential leaders: Giuseppe Di Maulo, brother-in-law of Raynald Desjardins, and Moreno Gallo, murdered in 2012 and 2013, presumably for lacking loyalty to Vito Rizzuto. Since, the radiation of this cell, which gathers former members of the Cotroni clan rallied to the Rizzuto after the coming to power of these, at the beginning of the 80s, decreases constantly. There is less and less talk of members of this group, some of whom would have retired and sold their legitimate businesses to emerging clans. The last members of this cell would be protected by a member of the Hells Angels of Montreal, Salvatore Brunetti. If there is a succession within this clan, it would have more affinities with the Sicilians.
