Some of that crew succession info seems a little off, either that or I don't have the right sources. For starters Virgil Alessi was made a captain circa mid-1990. This promotion was pushed for by Philip Abramo, but Alessi and Abramo were heading separate crews. Abramo wasn't imprisoned until 1997, he stayed a captain and just had his crew go to Vincent Palermo with any problems.

Palermo was made a captain c. October 1989 and I don't think any of his initial crew were taken from Rotondo. Only Anthony Capo and that was a couple of years later. He got some parts of Rudy Farone's crew as well.

The DeCav wiretaps on MF talk about the setup as of early 1964, something about them having no captains and about 38 soldiers. This is from a convo between DeCav and Gene Catena I think, can't search at the moment.

By 1966 the captains were: Cocchiaro, Colletti, Farina, LaRasso, Lolordo, Puglia, Riggi.

Also somebody correct this if needed but I thought Paul Farina took over Sferra's regime, what Riggi took over was Sferra's Local 394 interests.

Would you guys say that by the mid 90's between soliders and associates that the NY guys were about on par with NJ in terms of manpower and influence barring local 394? Did the NY guys have any labor influence in NY?

Thanks for the info JD. I'm assuming the Alessi Crew was disbanded after he died? Do you know who he took over for?

I re-checked The Plumber Tapes and it is a bit unclear. In one June conversation about Sfera's demotion he (DeCavalcante) says that he making Paul Farina a Caporegima. In a seperate June conversation where he is talking to Riggi about Sferra and the union he (DeCavalcante) tells Riggi, "And I'm going to let you take over his decina."

This could mean that the crew was split between Riggi and Farina or Riggi took over the Crew and Farina just happened to be promoted to Capo at the time and it was unrelated to the Sferra Crew.

I never read the Plumber Tapes, is it available online?

Also, another informant from Philly said that prior to the 40's there weren't captains either.

To my knowledge a picture of him has never surfaced. Same with Joe "Crutch" Curro in Philly.

Did Joseph Miranda recently die?

I found a Joseph Miranda (age 91 and born in 1924) who died a few weeks ago in New Jersey. Our Joseph Miranda was also born in 1924 I believe. This JM was also born in Brooklyn and our JM was part of one of the DeCavalcante's NY Crews at one point. Is this him?

"Our" Joseph Miranda was born December 7, 1923 and at one point (in the 1980s, and possible earlier) lived in Marlboro, NY. Interestingly enough, "our" Miranda´s full name is listed as Joseph A. Miranda in the report. Who knows...maybe the report is not fully accurate?
There you have it, never printed before.

I received LaRasso's file this week and skimming it I came up with a couple of interesting nuggets regarding some interfamily relationships:

-According to an FBI report dated 12/27/1957, Joseph "Joe C" Caruano (listed as a captain in the DeCavalcante Family later in 1997) was Louis LaRasso's nephew. Of course, Caruano was a member of Local 394 and at that time (1957) was under indictment for bookmaking at the Gas and Electric construction site in Linden, NJ.

-Later, in a report dated 12/26/1968, the agent noted the passing of one Emanuel Caruano, who apparently was Frank Majuri's father-in-law. It stated that "Caruano is the father of FRANK MAJURI's wife." It doesn't go into any more detail than that as far as his relationship to Joseph. He could have been Joe C's father or grandfather as he was 70 years old at the time of his death. So it's interesting that LaRasso was related by marriage to Majuri.

B:

Looking at your origin chart, you have Joseph Caruano listed as being of Ribera descent. This may be Majuri's link to Ribera we've been looking for.
