What do you find so amazing?

The guy went all the way back in cliqued up neighborhoods, knew the life, had friends in the life, was good with his hands and did over ten years inside.

You find it amazing that someone like that would qualify?

I would concur.

Pennisi vs a Rubeo is a clear example.
Pennisi vs Borello too. Pennisi comes off as much more disciplined, quiet, Borello a loose cannon.
Looking at many of these comparisons and you can clearly see differences.

Gene Borello has one of the most punchable faces I've ever seen.....And John Alite discovered water. Gene Borello a complete clown! Always sounding envious.

I wouldn't be surprised nor would I blame him if he tries to find a deal, but so far he's like DiLeonardo where he seems to enjoy talking about the mafia and his life in it, no real agenda.

Maybe it's just me, but the made members who do these interviews come across much sharper and more perceptive than the associates. Totally agree. His account of that life paints a good picture for the listener. He comes across as honest and insightful. The self awareness he has when speaking about who he was on the street is refreshing. Which definitely isn’t the norm. Ive enjoyed his stories. His perception of the Gambino Sicilian Faction was fascinating. As was the reverence in his tone when discussing anything Genovese related.
An interesting thing to takeaway from it is that John Pennisi says that talk of the mafia being wiped out or nearly crippled were greatly exaggerated. Also Pennisi in these interviews comes across as very humble. Not once did he brag about violence he committed or howmuch money he made. Very refreshing. He never seems like he’s bragging. I listen to the Johnny and Gene show and all they do is brag and laugh about how much violence they committed and then they tell the kids not to get involved like they’re some type of humanitarians. Gene Borello always says that Italian Mafia in USA is washed up, but i think that he is just jealous of the real mobsters. Gene Borello seems so bitter and jealous in his interviews. Real Made Guys have secrets and phrases that the lowly mugs who do the shitty stuff for them like Gene Borello and John Alite, don't know about. Gene was more of a low thug gangster that only did the crazy shit.

Also during his first interview he mentions that the west side(Genovese) guys that jumped his friends didn’t touch him because they thought he was made Which is interesting showing that even in the modern day LCN some of the rules from the beginning are still (somewhat) followed

Exactly. And stood up for it.
How many of them do you think there are these days?

Dude, if you think murder isn’t a good enough prereq to join the mafia, I don’t know what to tell you.

Completely agree. Not only did he stand up, hell, the Bonanno family has a boss who killed his own wife. I would think that’s much worse in “the life.”

The way he spoke about Philadelphia being entirely different from them (NYC) was interesting. Recognizing or not recognizing. He used the word “kids” and spoke about how they drank a lot and mostly partied. He gave the description of a bunch of childhood friends who’ve never left their surroundings. But all in a respectful delivery.

What do you mean he stood up for it, who could he roll on, tried to kill himself in jail didn't he? The last thing these guys need is killers now.

1. How can you defend making him?
Everyone loves a Monday morning quarterback. Easiest game in the world eh.
2. All these singers claim they were the last tough guy.
Where does Penisi claim that? He actually never does anything of the sort.
3. They are soft pussies.
Easy words from the bleaches ;)
