Just like with everything in life most criminals are brokesters. It doesnt matter how old you are.Their are accountants who make a few hundred a week and their are accountants who make millions.Crime is no different.A guy in his 40s whos been a life long criminal would rather make 200 a week in scams then be stuck at a job 40hrs a week and make 1000 aweek.Connections are very important in the criminal world some guys are stuck in pathetic crews with old guys that are only still active because back in the day they had some sort of power.Look at the legendary Asaro the guy was a brokster he was living off money his crew would give him,his nephew had all the power in that crew because he was a younger more connected smarter guy.Knowing an old legendary gangster like sonny franceze is useless in making money,it would be more beneficial knowing a young drug dealer or stock broker or even a dock worker who you can potentially make money with.Look at a guy like compos evrytime he gets busted for the multi million dollar crimes the other people involved were guys at the top in their respected fields,The porn scam they had Computer tech guys, credit card company guys, money launderars then in this new construction scam he had high level union guys.Hes a very rare exception most of these made guys have no power or contacts outside of their neighbourhoods

K 40 is not old for the mob. As for street crimes, it is not below them if they are broke or have other mouths to feed its all circumstial

100% right. Criminal) world relies on connections I think even more than the legit world. And sometimes these connections have to go back a long time for ppl to do business.

In every criminal organization there are people that made big money and people that only made the dirty work.
Today there are few opportunity to be a street guy and a white collar man. Look at Panuozzo case in Chicago,ha are respinte as a godere earner and rob drug dealers and runned a burglary ring.
If a wannabe is lucky and his father run or just stay in a profitable crew like Trucchio or had some connection it ok.
If not he had to start earn money and what are the simple ways?
Extortion,rob and sell drugs,loansharking ecc
The worst thing is if a made man spent decade in the can for the family and after out no one would help him.

It's the whole, this is GOOD crime vs this is BAD crime mentality.... I get it, to certain point.....

But this type of thinking gets smart guys like Castellano killed.... Polished guys like Bontade get run over by peasants from the mountains.... Joey Merlino, there are tons of examples.....

Also, all those other crimes (stock fraud, internet scam, etc) require some semblance of a brain and/or connections. As to whether they deserve to be called LCN, probably not but as other more knowledgeable posters have said the talent pool is not very deep these days.
So that people must really love that "job" cause, for me personal ,there is no way to be 24/7 surrounded by pimps, junkies, rats for less than $10k/month,and dont forget no way i can risk 5-10 in the can for less than even more,at least 30-40k per month.
No offense.... But u ain't from around here huh??

.... Kinda my point
HANG IT UP NICKY. ITS TIME TO GO HOME.

Sometimes when a bust happens, the media report the non made guys as wanna be's. I feel like the media always wants to bash the made guy more for being the real criminal, and make the associates look like cheerleaders. I'm sure that's how law enforcement would like it to be reported.
Sometimes the non made guys in the bust are actually the ones with the brains. People always say why didn't he just go independent, or he was getting used by a made guy. Not always true, sometimes they both need each other. The made guy with connections could in some cases be using the guy for sure, but I've seen guys with brains go to a connected guy to get the idea in motion. This post makes no sense to you but ir does to me.

exactly. when the mafia takedown day in 2011 happened, obviously there were a lot of associates among the dozens arrested; the media had a field day with the “wanna be” label. i remember they called Todd LaBarca from the Gambinos Trucchio/Mastrangelo crews as “the ultimate mob wanna-be” when the guy had been on record for well over a decade, had a little crew of his own, was running a decent sized book & loan ring, involved with carting, and was pointman on hits. then he effectively took a life sentence on the chin and didnt rat... doesnt sound like a wanna be to me

Yea Labarca is no wannabe, he was up for induction at the time he was arrested. Pete Tuccio or Roger Vella are good examples of mob wannabes.

And even Vella took part in a murder.

What exactly even constitutes as a “mob wannabe” from what I’ve gathered in this thread, the kinds of people you are referring to just sounds like middle aged criminals that never made any effort to expanded into more lucrative criminal activity. When I think of a mob wanna be, I think of someone who just so happens to have Gambino as their last name, and because of that act like they’re connected, and if you fuck with them you’re just “one phone call away from being whacked” even though the threats are always empty, and are never actually related to anyone from the Gambino crime family. That’s what I think of when I think of what a mob wannabe is

a mob wannabe is the kid or man who desperately tries to be around connected or made guys. desperate to be noticed and a lot of times will do outrageous shit thinking that will get them in. also a lot of times is the idiot no brain guys with no or little self esteem... a criminal will be noticed by mobsters and they will bring you around/ test you etc. the wannabe guys they see a mile away and a lot of times will use them to do shit they don't want to do. play them like a fiddle letting them think their in until their done with them. Labarca was real deal. the Gambinos at least in that area seem to stay away from those types. the Bonannos on the other hand have wannabees all over the place

So basically like that episode of Always Sunny in Philadelphia, where they have the run in with the mob, and Mac desperate tries to join the mob crew. But instead they make him clean the bathrooms, wash their cars, and call him pussyhands because he brags about having cat like reflexes lmao. That’s what I think of when you just explained what you explained.

All jokes aside, thank you for clearing that up. Because everyone else at least to me, were making it out to be like Italian guys in their 40’s with no real mob connects are wannabes because they’re still doing shit like being small time street peddlers, instead of expanding.

All my posts aren't current, they are older, so bear with me.

A wannabe to me, when I was young = a guy with the uniform on, meaning the clothes and whatever, tough talk and driving his parents nice car around.

Looking the part but no way ever being the part.

When shit went down, never there, when real shit went down, c'mon.

When I was young hanging out in a parking lot or wherever, some real guys would grab us, yell at us and tell us like wtf is wrong with you.

Some "criminals" actually helped us kids.

Not saying that some of the kids weren't tough or capable, but if a real guy saw a kid that had other options, they didn't want them around and wanted to see them on the right path.

They would even make threats or actually grab you to make you listen.

If those guys saw a wannabe they wouldn't even talk to them and to use them is so stupid because they will for sure sing.

just my 2 cents
