Tv and movies often have characters that are composites of several real people.

Anyhow, this show feels like overkill. I know the movie about Bumpy in the 90s with Laurence Fishburn was a different era but this doesn't seem like it's doing anything that that one didn't.

I don't care. I'm capable of separating art from history. I'm of the understanding that all tv shows and movies stray from the facts. What I meant is that Godfather of Harlem isn't presenting any entertainment quality exceeding, or really even matching imo, that of the Laurence Fishburn movie. Overkill mob genre tv.

It's all wrong on Gigante, and the "war" between Italians and Blacks in that time period. If they had any dealings at all, they were minor. The shows writers do interviews saying it's all true.

Michael Franzese just did an interview and he was pushing back on the accuracy of the portrayal of Chin Gigante in the Netflix series “Godfather of Harlem”. I haven’t seen the show but apparently it makes it seem like Chin was in the drug business with Bumpy Johnson. Franzese said that was completely false and that it was more than likely the Bonannos that worked with Bumpy.

But then he started talking about his own relationship wth Chin. He didn’t know him personally at first but he was good friends with Fritzy Giovanelli. Franzese told Fritzy that he was having some problems with Junior and the gas business. Then a few days later Fritzy called him and said Chin wanted to meet him. Franzese said he went over to Houston St in Greenwich Village and had a walk and talk with Chin, who was in his bathrobe, unshaven with messy hair. He said it was well known that Chin did not like Junior at the time, and when they were talking Chin offered to bring him over to the Genovese Family. Franzese said although it was pretty rare for guys to switch families, that Chin was the most powerful boss in the country at the time and no one was going to really tell Chin he couldn’t do something.

I usually take a lot of what Franzese says with a grain of salt, but I dunno about this one.

All I know is the show is great ! I do know that Chin and Vito Genovese were big into the Dope business . I don't know about Bumpy and the Chin ? In the Series they hate each other and they're both at war with one another

Its all bullshit. The show I mean. I seen the show. I seen it. episodes 1 - 2 & 3. They got Paul cicero portraying a character named "Costello." If that's supposed to be the boss a all bosses prime minister then the show writers are really kooky. I seen footage a John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The real chin giganti was in the can when the irish took over the white house. I don't think chin ever stepped foot in harlem as a made guy. Real funny that they got him as a cariocature of fat tony and based on pleasant avenue. It should be Hollywood a lister John Malkovich portraying "benny squint" on the small screen. Not chin donofrio playing giganti. The kid playing adam clayton powell is a dead ringer for adam clayton powell. Great choice there. The rest is some fantastical landscape. Bumpy had zero to do with anything below 125 st. Lower harlem was the spanish with the sons a italy on the east side. North harlem was the blacks, virgin island people, cubans on the west side. I know the show is all wrong .Yeah , Costello mentoring Gigante throughout ? Lol.. Amd most of the other shit never happened but as far as action and drama I love it ! I wouldn't watch it at first , I binged watched it all in 2 or 3 days and I was the same way , I wouldn't watch it because the whole thing was all wrong and BS but hey I got the flu and got really sick and watched every episode. At the place I live a lady that works here (jazmin) put it on for me. I only seen 3 episodes. But thats enough for me. It aint the harlem I remember I tell ya that much. The ONLY thing that resonates with me is the kid playing adam clayton powell. Kids got em down to a t.
