Joe Dogs is an okay book. I find his description of people make them come across as cartoon characters. The stories he tells are pretty cartoonish also. It's also another one of those books like Fratianno's where everyone else is an idiot and doesn't know how to make money except for him. Yet he's the one who is broke at the end. There are things in there I don't believe happened. I don't think he was a getaway driver when Cataldo supposedly killed some Colombians in Florida. Stuff like that. And he writes about how in the 70s when he started hanging around Agro he didn't know anything about the mob(which I buy), but he also links himself to unintentionally stopping someone from getting killed at that triple murder during the Banana War in the 1960s? Surprised he didn't throw in a Hoffa story.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Thu Oct 11, 2018 6:25 pmOne of the better mafia bios out there imo

Gambino soldier Anthony Plate was 63 when he participated in the George Byrum murder

I believe some of our researchers on here also found evidence that he may have been informing before the brutal beating that supposedly "turned" him. Wouldn't surprise me, as others like Valachi and Fratianno look to have informed earlier than they claim as well.Adam wrote: ↑Fri Oct 12, 2018 5:16 amJoe Dogs is an okay book. Re: Old men doing mob hits
I remember reading something about John Gotti "proudly" taking credit for the Tommy DeSimone (Joe Pesci/Goodfellas) hit.
Something about it was personal for Gotti because Billy Batts was his friend.
Of course, I realize that it may or may not be true. It's not my intention to spread false information.
Also, the piece I read stated that Nicholas Pileggi and Martin Scorsese supposedly knew about the Gotti claim. They purposely steered clear of any references or images alluding to Gotti while filming Goodfellas. Remember, the film was being shot during 1989 so it was at the pinnacle of Gotti's power.
I don't exactly remember where I saw this but I think it was one of those places where they compare the real events to the events depicted in the motion picture?

If my memory is correct the book Wiseguy (which was of course Goodfellas) mentions DeSimone being killed by the John Gotti Crew.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Sammy Gravano's Joe Paruta was a lethal old man
And on the Desimone hit, I thought Gotti's crew wanted the guy dead for a long time but Vario was protecting the kid then when he was out of favor that the was the end.

I remember reading a site while I was in college before I made it to the forums that was all about the true story vs the movie storylines. I'd never be able to find it now though. As someone who was brought into oc research by watching mob movies it was an eye opener to say the least.Meatball wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 5:39 am I remember reading something about John Gotti "proudly" taking credit for the Tommy DeSimone (Joe Pesci/Goodfellas) hit.

I get it....first rule of fight club.
Re: Old men doing mob hits
I believe Tommy Agro killed DeSimone on Gotti's request (Gotti hated Agro, and Agro was close to the DeSimone family). It is documented in the Joe Dog's book.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 7:49 am If my memory is correct the book Wiseguy (which was of course Goodfellas) mentions DeSimone being killed by the John Gotti Crew.

Joe Paruta was just 60 years old when he shot and killed Nicholas Mormando
