The actual spelling as Tommy spelled it is:
Luchese

That's from Capeci
Thanks. I always wondered why Capeci always spelt it with one c.
The way you talk, you just confuse him.

isnt it Luckese on Tommy Lucchese's grave? he purposely used a different spelling to shine light away from his (legit) family afaik?

I think Lucchese is a fairly common name and the only time ive seen it spelled Luchese is on articles / Capeci

This quote is from Gang Land news. Surnames can be spelled different ways. My name has 3 common spellings. Six, half dozen.
Does it really matter? Not to me.

The Luchese Crime Family
By Jerry Capeci

"The Luchese crime family has been around since the turn of the twentieth century, but very few people knew it existed until the public testimony of Joe (Cago) Valachi in 1963. While the bosses of the other four families basked in the limelight — or cringed with the notoriety — that only New York can create, no Luchese leader became really well known for more than 60 years.

Valachi explained that at the start of the Callammarese War in the late 1920s, Gaetano (Tommy) Reina was the boss of the organization that we now call the Luchese crime family, an alternate spelling for Thomas Lucchese, the name of the boss of the family when Valachi broke his vow of omerta and spilled his guts about the Mafia. It's very likely that Reina wasn't the first boss of the crime family, but he's the first one we have any information about."

I have always thought it was spelled with two C's as well.
don't know where/why Capeci thinks it is only one C.

The original Italian spelling was surely Lucchese, it means "from Lucca", spelled with two C.

Maybe because he is Irish.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
