It's not a pay-per-view site for you though, is it Sonny?
Criticize GL all you want, but don't act like the monetary aspect offends you.

All due respect Gohn but go fuck yourself.

I don’t pay for GL news for a reason.

Want to know what that is? Sure. I was one of the first to sign up for his site when it went PPV and there was a fuckup where I inadvertently created 5 accounts. All with the same password and login AND credit card details. Due to my own financial malaise I didn’t realize this until over a year later and contacted Jerry about this. He refused to reimburse or even CREDIT the extraneous accounts. When it was obviously in error. So I don’t pay Capeci out of point, because of this.

You want to argue my point, fine, but before you get cute, make sure you know what you’re talking about.

Your stock just went down in my book, mate.

Don’t act like this offends you, ay bro.

Ah, I'm glad you added the "all due respect" part. I almost thought you were insulting me for a second.

Real scumbag move on Jerry's part. Did he contact you back and clarify why he couldn't reimburse, or just flat-out ignore you?
I've almost had that problem myself. If you go to a URL through Gang Land which is not on their website, it just gives you a screen telling you to sign up for a subscription service. So it's almost like the website is trying to infer that the reason you can't access the page is because you're not subscribed. Hence the repeated misunderstandings by me.
Or, it'll ask you to log in again, and then tell you your "account is expired."
For example, go this this URL: https://www.ganglandnews.com/members/sonnyblackstein
You may very well be a subscribed member of the site, but it will come up with a page telling you to sign up. Confuses the hell out of me, especially when old GL articles have links to other GL articles that don't exist, and you're redirected to a page telling to resubscribe.

So, if that happened to you Sonny then I see why you don't pay. And scumbag move from Jerry to a) not reimburse you, and b) put that design on his website in the first place.

Oh no, how will I live with myself??

Nah bro, the "all due respect" part made the follow-up "go fuck yourself" comment allright.

In all seriousness, sorry this happened to you. You can see though how, from my point of view, it just looks like some stingy poster is making a point to rip apart Jerry Capeci when he can't even cough up a few bucks to subscribe to the website himself. But now that I know that you're completely justified in your decision, it's cleared it all up.

Capeci apologists are strange, talking about people being stingy for not buying a fucking mafia article that 9/10 times is garbage  proper fucking weirdo's out there.

My favorite is when the article isn't posted by 6am and you end up seeing a "where's fucking gangland" thread. And these articles bring up the exact same discussion every single week, why didn't he write about...etc. Same thing with gangstereport, starting to wonder while y'all even bother with either one of them. As for me I don't read gangland unless their is absolutely nothing else on here to read. I enjoy gangstereports stuff most the time, atleast its more entertaining than gangland.

As for the article, it's kinda fucked up what they are doing with the guy and his money. I'm glad there was a pic of Meldish, I was assumed he was black.
I get it....first rule of fight club.

For years I did not pay for the Capeci site.
I paid this year. The best part about the site
is the archives, they are an excellent reference
source. Going back to the 90's.

That's from Good Will Hunting. The bar scene when Ben Afflect is trying to pick the chick up, when the douche comes over and tries to embarrass him.

It wasn’t Affleck it was Matt Damon’s character.

that may be so but IMO he has been the best and most consistant NY journalist to cover the mob.

no one else is really writing about it. hes the only game in town basically. unless you yourself want to sift through daily news articles (which refer to any guy within a 5 mile radius of an associate as a "boss") after an arrest, prowl the FBI's site for press releases, or develop relationships with the small number of defense lawyers left in NY doing LCN cases, along with people at the courts, cops, former / failed LCN associates, etc..in order to get info. me? id just rather him do all of that, and Ill read about it. Capeci's sources are heavily "law"' based (I personally know 2 lawyer who speak with him and have given info) but he has great sources.

To that end, I wouldnt be surprised in the next month or so if we read an article in GL stating that a certain arrest that happened in early 2018 is going to be taken to trial...involving a family that never, ever, ever goes to trial (and has allegedly clipped someone for trying to goto trial) . i would almost bet on it...

I would also bet next week or the week after, after the chips are done falling and more info surfaces, he'll write about the big current events that happened this month (colombo bust & that bronx shooting). matter fact i wouldnt be surprised in an upcoming column if he drops previously unknown to the public background info on those colombo guys

Capeci, in combination with some of the researchers and posters on this very forum, are essentially the only places for info about LCN.

at the very least, GL gives us something to talk about each week..and sometimes acts as a jumping off point into other discussions, more research by guys here, etc..

never understood the Capeci hate or at this point, even the criticism. im just grateful hes still writing each week (although unless he comes back from the dead, i never want to really hear Gotti's name again)

Capeci is in his mid-70s and has always had integrity in a field full of journalists who choose sensationalism over accuracy and authors who outright lie. He has called out liars publicly (remember that old Charlie Rose episode?) and there's a reason gangsters themselves read his articles and some big names have written him letters asking for him to set the record straight. His work has bridged a gap between audiences that include gangsters and their relatives, law enforcement, and random guys like us.

Some articles, especially these days, are boring. He isn't the best historical researcher and he makes mistakes but he has always tried to represent the truth in his articles and books. He is willing to admit mistakes when he makes them, even when it discredits one of his most popular books (Murder Machine) or contradicts earlier articles he's written.

These topics that he's not covering... what do you think is going on? Do you think he has new, insider information and he's choosing not to share it even though it would obviously benefit his work (and business)? Do you believe he is purposely withholding interesting information for some nefarious reason? I honestly want to know the answer to that. Or if he simply doesn't have anything new or interesting to add to these topics... do you want him to repeat what newspapers have already written? Do you want him to stop publishing Gangland articles altogether?

Interesting Sal "Good Looking" Vitale complained on the witness stand that while in WITSEC he still has to get a job at Costco or Best Buy at minimum wage. I wonder what Fat Joey Massina is doing in WITSEC. I'll look around the next time I'm in COSTCO and see if he's there.
