This speaks volumes.

From 2000 until the bust in 2011, I'd say New England was the most active of the remaining families outside New York.

It lines up with past estimates and there are 27 known members we can list currently. In terms of living members it would put them on par with New Jersey, both being behind Philly in terms of most members outside of New York.

Right, but in the past decade their activity level just fell off a cliff, unless they are extremely good at staying under the radar.

John Salemme died earlier this year. I’ve never seen Pingaro listed as a confirmed member. Vito DeLuca is on the list.

What I think will keep the Outfit in tact longer than the tertiary east coast families, is the fact that they’re all alone out there, without anyone from ny attempting to infringe upon their affairs, in tandem with their relatively healthy Italian population, including Italian/sicilian influx to the outlying suburbs
It will be so difficult for crews like Philadelphia, Boston etc to stay afloat with the Genovese and Gambinos constantly infringing upon their affairs
I don't think Folcarelli or either Costa were confirmed members. The list is also missing Salvatore D'Aquila and Gaetano Milano, although I think he cooperated.

The Outfit is even closer to being gone than those few east coast families outside New York. It has little to do with NY infringing on anything (the opposite of the general trend) and far more to do with relative attrition. Chicago's Italian population didn't stop the Outfit from always having relatively few made members, likely no more than 15 at present.

I don't think D'Aquila was ever confirmed made either but you're right about Milano cooperating.

Correct on the Costa’s but their placement on the probation list among all the confirmed Boston members is pretty strong evidence that they are made. For what it’s worth informant Mark Silverman also identified Greg Costa as a made member although he is not a credible source since he also claimed to have been made when he clearly wasn’t.
I don’t think D’Aquila was ever confirmed as a member. He may be dead. My memory is hazy on that. Milano did cooperate. Don’t know if he is still alive.

Connolly's was released on parole due to 'terminal illness'. Three plus years later, his illness might not have been that 'terminal'. Living free in Massachusetts
Released from Florida state prison in February 2021, John Connolly returned to his home state of Massachusetts. Despite his medical release, and status as "terminally ill," the former associate of Whitey Bulger will remain under the supervision of law enforcement until 2047 (via Boston Herald) — though he likely won't live that long. Initially, medical experts said Connolly had just a year to live, but that was several years ago. Now in his mid-eighties, Connolly lives life on the outside and, despite his convictions, even receives a pension from his time with the FBI.
As of 2023, experts speculate that John Connolly may return to prison if his medical parole is deemed no longer valid.
When Connolly was initially released on parole, officials deemed that Connolly was to remain confined to a hospice facility or residence unless he was seeking medical care for his terminal condition. It's possible the added risk of COVID-19, which spread more easily in confined spaces, was another reason officials agreed to Connolly's parole. However, according to the Boston Herald, the agent-turned-mob-informant's health seems to be improving, which is prompting officials to revisit his parole. If John Connolly is well enough to serve the remainder of his prison sentence, the Black Mass subject's parole may be reevaluated.
You cant really murder anymore so you can't really intimidate your prey... other than kicking some ass here and there. More than anything, I think, the lifestyle of the mafia neighborhoods has evolved away from sheltering these guys from law enforcement.
