In another thread, discussing illegal gambling in Ohio. Brooklyn21 mentioned gambling in Pennsylvania.

I mentioned that prior to the pandemic the legal gambling industry was booming, and to keep it short I mentioned that every month I would go there new hotel/casinos were propping up left and right.

My question that pertains to all this is: does anyone think any of these crews and their bosses be bringing in enough money to invest in and run casinos like the Outfit did back in the day in Las Vegas?

That crew in Springfield has also been around forever and been a major force for a very long time . That is a very profitable area and stronghold going back decades . I don't think they'll be giving that up anytime soon no matter how thin the ranks are

The Feds are looking for a major road leading straight into the heart of the NY guys to make a major bust but it hasn't happened like they wanted . Theres also other major Genovese operations in the surrounding areas and Connecticut they'd love to make inroads into

I doubt it, a lot of casinos are corporate owned and probably out of the price-range of the modern mob. Plus, acquiring the proper licenses to operate a casino would be nearly impossible for anyone with a criminal record and/or organized crime connections.

Also, don’t some guys kick money upstairs by using legitimate companies and money that appears to be clean? For example a soldier using a company he owns to pay for services that may or may not actually be provided by a company the boss owns?

John Gotti Jr. would receive tribute payments through his construction company through bogus equipment rentals and inflated prices for concrete and other supplies.

IMO I agree Pete , Depending on the family and bosses some of these guys are still today making mind blowing numbers ! Vincent Esposito for example was busted in a 20 plus million dollar Townhouse with what ? 5 Mil. In Cash ? That's probably a drop in the bucket ! That guy is loaded beyond belief and IMO is probably worth a quarter of a Billion or even more in illegitimate and legitimate business and enterprises and investments . Now imagine and picture what Barney is worth ! He's involved in numerous industries of all kinds and all over the U.S. among other places .Now I have no clue what he's worth and either does any of us but he can probably buy small nations and 3rd world countries and build them up and profit immensely ! Just my opinion

It was a 12 million dollar townhouse that I believe he inherited and 3.8 million in Genovese family funds, not his own personal cash. Again you are dreaming if you think any of they guys are even sniffing 250 million.

I'm pretty sure he inherited the townhouse from his dad, and I'm sure he inherited a significant portion of the money he has. We can't base Esposito's earning ability on the value of his assets because so many of them probably came from his dad.

i posted on the testimony thread that i found Massino’s rise kind of perplexing seeing as he wasnt necessarily the smartest, brightest guy (again, this is based off his answers on the testimony which was given when he wasnt in the best of health) , wasnt a big earner personally when he was coming up - literally grinding out scores and hustles and real jobs -and more importantly seemed like he had zero personality or charisma.

but it all makes a little bit more sense after hearing about what he was demanding and requiring to be kicked up. I always assumed he was greedy (frankly because of his weight and girth), but from his own account, maybe needed to be taken with a grain of salt, he really wasnt. he was letting guys earn. i always thought he bankrolled everyones shy book just to wedge himself in as a partner, but he was just loaning money straight up at 1% giving his guys opportunity. by his account there were a lot of situations where it would have been ‘normal’ in mob parlance to take a lot more, especially in regards to the various sports books. actually splitting the money with anthony mannone, etc...

Joey was no ones fool he knew what day of the week it was he had a rapid rise might of acted daft in the testimony but dont think he was for a minute.

Yeah it was 22 crews. Gotti collected tribute from every Capo. If I remember right Peter Gotti drove around every week/month (forgot which) to pick up the tribute and kept it in his trunk. It was in one of the Gotti books.
