Thanks, Jojo. That is interesting. Wondering what these guys are up to. I'm assuming they were all part of Pete's crew.

So I decided to take a walk past the club during lunch today (I work downtown in the financial district). Was hard as hell to find. You weren't kidding about it being a deserted area. Didn't think there was a single street in Manhattan that was empty at noon on a weekday but that one was. Anyway, the door was open and I peaked in VERY quickly as I walked by. The place is tiny and just noticed a few guys talking some on cellphones. Just as I was a block away I saw a few guys meet up out front. I didn't want to turn around and walk back and be obvious about it. I really can't see that place being anything other than mob activity as there really is nothing around there and the club is tiny. Just my two cents.

JR Rubeo brought that Fed undercover around who in turn said he visited the club a few times when he was driving Onofrio around.

Interesting. If i ever pass the club ill get a look myself. I could def get up close to the club. Like if someone is standing out front I could ask him for directions and try to see if I notice the guy. The place is def shady.

Id get a good look and even a picture. This isn’t 1988 the mobsters aren’t gunna react violently if they catch u bein nosey.
Tell that to the Asian driver who cut off that jersey guy
True. But i doubt the west side would behave like that. Next time i visit the city i may get a picture of the social club and hopefully i see some familiar faces. At most, the wiseguys would tell me to fuck off.
You would risk getting your ass kicked and phone taken on a deserted street to take a picture?

the west side of the building i believe is the back of the building on Monroe Street

for a while i was driving by there 2-3 days a week and rain or shine id see the door to Petey Red's club open, with guys inside. sometimes as early as 6:30 am. i havent been by in a while but the last time i was there (after he passed away) the door was open. i wonder if the club is used for LCN stuff now or if its just old guys from the building hanging out.

one time i passed by to visit someone at the near by rutgers houses on the other side of the bridge so i thought id check to see what was happening by the club and there were a ton of guys inside and outside, with younger looking guys "flanking" the place and another group of young guys holding court on the corner of cherry street.

knickerbocker is kind of a fascinating place. we should try to do a talley of mobsters that lived there. cantarella, joey d'amico, embaratto, tony mirra i think, lefty, the lucchese tortorella brothers, jimmy ida had an apartment there, dichiara, im sure many many more. you'll still see some italian flags hanging from windows there

its crazy the buildings management let dichiara run a club there. the building is overseen by NY State and is a highly regulated place in every aspect, so for him to operate carte blanch like that there is just weird.

if anyone was looking for a cheap apartment in manhattan, KV opened a lottery for their wait list a few months ago. i believe a 1 bed there goes for $900 but its based on your income. perfect for a guy like DiChiara who makes a majority of his income off the books. D'Arco scammed an affordable housing development back in his day as well

DiChiara was probably born and raised on the same block as the location of his social club. I have in my notes that he was apprehended back in 1970 and indicted on hijacking charges. His address at that time was listed at 40 Monroe Street, NY.

He came up under the Joe "Beck" Lapi/George Filippone/Louis Gaccione/Rosario Gangi crew, a Genovese crew very active on lower Manhattan. Lapi took over from Saro Mogavero in or around 1974. DiChiara was probably made in the late 1980s. Some of the crew members were (at various times) Ernest Butchie Montevecchi, Frank Vispisiano (known to the police as a hitman), Salvatore Gencarelli, Mike Clemente (who in the 1970s reported directly to Tieri), Joe Agone, Anthony Albanese, Philip Albanese, Sammy Aparo, Joe Calabro, Frank Caruso, Charlie Coppolino, Joe Mogavero, Sal DeMeo, Angelo Lapi, Joseph Zito (who was moved to be under Vincent Gigante in 1980 but later transfered back to this crew) and others. The crew was heavily involved with drug trafficking in the 1950s and 1960s. But also (with the Lanza crew) had a grip on the Fulton Fish Market way back.

In the 1970s, the crew had a hook on John Albert, a notorious toxic waste dumper. According to an investigation, Albert met weekly with members of the crew and delivered money(at least 3,000 dollars) to them.

Yeah you are right about Monroe. So where is it in Monroe? Every time I have been petey reds it’s been quiet. Also good luck on getting an apartment. I think you need to have a connection.
