He was acting boss at one point i believe as well as a panel.
I dont think he was on the streets at that specific time of Rastelli dieing and Massino taking over.

LES is predominantly puerto rican now and black im the projects. The projects surround the whole border of manhattan all the way up from 14th street down to the smith housed. ALPHABET CITY is also sometimed counted as the LES but old time alphavile was home to Luciano, Lansky, Siegel, etc

Greenwhich village i would say still has some presence. At McDougal and Houston, i believe, there was a littlr sausage place where i believe some wiseguys were around but thats assumingly the Genovese.
HANG IT UP NICKY. ITS TIME TO GO HOME.

I know D'Arco identified Spero as acting boss in 1991 with Vitale as acting underboss. Bonannos aren't my area of expertise though, so I don't know if anything else conflicts with this - ruling panels, etc.

Was Russell Mauro ever a captain or acting captain during the 1980s? Maybe acting for Sally Fruits while he was acting boss

It doesn't appear he ever was.

Thank you. Just wanted to clear that up. Can't remember where I read it, didn't look corroborated anyway

He was listed as Capo on some NYPD charts from the 80s but those aren't the most accurate. None of the many informants that have flipped since then have ever described him as anything other than a Soldier.

Dont think he was ever a capo . Powerful soldier at best. Was a great addition to the family earner and hitter had a few followers . Sure he worked with sonny red.

ITS still on the northern side of knickerbocker village across from the field and 150 yards to the water

You still see the door open from time to time I run along the Water every day so I either pass by at 7am or 7pm

when the place was hopping and it wasn't freezing I would walk by very slowly and look in

since Pete died very little activity. good location, probably hard to do surveillance on

I posted this in the 5 Families Crew thread, but it's relevant here. It looks like Russell Mauro was acting capo for James Episcopia
