Ronnie Turchi

Post by slimshady_007 »

Anyone know if turchi was heavily disliked in philly, which could have contributed to his murder? I read that the turchi hit was to send a message to ralph natale, but was that the only reason for why he was clipped?

Turchi always had his hand out and owed a lot of people a lot of money, Natale rolling ended any leeway he had left.

So people wanted him dead and Natale was kind of keeping him on life support? That makes more sense than just killing the guy to send Ralph a message (though that was part of it of course).

That was what he told North Jersey Capo Pete "The Crumb" Caprio.

Yep. Turchi got killed shortly after Merlino got picked up, before the rest were charged I think. Caprio also admitted that he conspired to kill Ligambi and Stevie Mazzone and Borgesi soon after. Supposedly he had some Genovese captain who he had on board if he could pull it off but his guy, Casale, flipped and told the fedsabout the plan. Caprio was also picked up talking with Natale and another guy about this plan before it happened.

Turchi reputedly gave a large amount of money, 10K, to some Gambino captain in 94/95 in an attempt to become boss. That leaked to Natale, who instead made him consilgiere, probably because he was one of the few left who knew Ralph on the streets before he went away. I think there was also allegation that Turchi's kid borrowed money and spread some bad debts around. There was probably lingering bad blood which made Turchi the example used to keep everyone in line or Turchi made some half-assed move to take over for Ralph when Joey got picked up so his ticket got punched.

I think it was in his court testimony where Caprio mentioned the Ligambi quote about Turchi.

Here is an old Mob Talk about the Turchi hit. GA and DS do it from the location where his body was discovered. I wonder who the guy was that pointed out the car to Roger Vella?

Turchi was a thug for hire before made by Stanfa. As I remember, he and his associates were involved in arson for hire

Turchi and Ralph go way back. All you need to do is check out his book and the blurb of his courtroom testimony. Ralph propped him up when he became boss. He was involved in organized labor and served time with Ralph. I mentioned this before but if I had to bet money when Ralph flipped and he was pushing Caprio to murder Joey's guys all at once, as revenge for hanging him out to dry, and that Ron Turchi was the South Philly part of that plan. Pete Caprio would have to be deluded to think he could run South Philly from Jersey without a street boss in Philly. Turchi probably showed his hand quick and Joey's guys went ahead and punched his time clock.

According to JD's latest blog post on Natale, Natale threatened to kill Turchi via Steve Mazzone if Turchi followed through and tried to become boss. So not even Natale was vouching for Turchi in the 90s/shortly before Turchi's death.

"I said you tell Ronnie, and anybody that's with him, when I come home, if he tries to do that, I'll kill him and anybody around him."

What you're alluding happened in '94, Turchi was back in Natale's good graces after that.

Yes, even after that happened Ralph still put Turchi in the administration. That's how close those guys were or how few guys were left in the streets that Ralph knew before he went away.
