Interesting, here is what I found on 'AA' from CT when he pled out in 2004. Don't hear too much of him in the NE area. Lot of associates names in here too. How many of them are made? Presuming not many?

Nah that's high. Take from handle is 4-7%. 10% goes uncollected. Running tabs etc. and all those guys you see next to him in the indictment don't work for free. There all on .25 or .50 sheet.

You know a lot. If $1,000 is bet on Alabama and $1,000 is bet on L.S.U., Each person puts up $1,100 in order to win $1,000. One guy loses and one guy wins. The Book basically makes $100 profit (before expenses) on $2,000 bet which is 5%.

Most sports bookmakers I knew were more top heavy at football season, baseball brought some action but monthly earnings fluctuated depending on what season it was. Basketball does well. I also knew some that had a steady stream of income through numbers business.

If each side bets $1,110 to win $1,000 doesn’t the book make $200?

Correct. It's 5% on the total amount bet. $100 profit on $2,000. My only question was about Parlays. Those work differently and are based on odds instead of a Vig that the loser pays.

5% of handle. See the govt always puts out total handle not the take. Its eye candy. Also numerous people always involved. Its not one guy. That money gets spread and kicked upstairs. Its a good living dont me wrong but not what people make it out to be.

You make a good point. I thought Rhode Island, especially Prov was a good place
for the mob. And that the local authorities were more amenable towards taking
payoffs. Thats why Ray Patriarca moved there.

The numbers business has always intrigued me. Are numbers done on a neighborhood basis?

Just cause shit isn't in the news or you haven't heard about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. We've seen it here countless times, made guys fly under the radar for years, even decades, until we finally hear about them, then guys get to updating their charts and doing research. After all this time I'm not sure why it's so inconceivable that there's things we're not aware of

Providence and RI in general has always had a huge Italian community, even now. I know Ray Sr was born in Mass but I'm not sure when he relocated or exactly why, but he definitely had tons of clout with politicians and the local authorities.
