Was it Ligambi who let him back into the fold? I thought Filipelli was brought back under Natale-Merlino when he got out in 1998?

You wouldn't think so on the face of it but it would make sense since he was close to Gongs back in the Stanfa days and could gain his trust. It would seem strange that Casasanto would willingly let Nicodemo, Virgilio, Lancelotti or a group of known hitters into his house at night.

Gongs has been out of prison for a bit by that point, he had probably gotten back into his old routine and let his guard down. I just don't see it with Filipelli, he was never known as a heavy guy and didn't get his hands dirty when Stanfa and Merlino were going at it.
The suspects in the Ciancaglini Jr. hit attempt were Mazzone, Merlino, Angelina, Lancelotti, and Borgesi. Tommy Scafidi testified that he was part of the hit team as well. He claimed that Merlino drove a separate car and waited outside as a lookout and that Mazzone and Lancelotti did the actual shooting, with Scafidi and Borgesi as backup. I assume Angelina was the driver for the hit team.
About a decade ago, Anastasia claimed an informant made a recording of someone admitting to being the driver in the Long John Martorano hit. The recording was likely made by associate Steve Carnivale who was wearing a wire during the period after the murder and was close to Lucibello associate Tony Gagliardi, who Chucky mentioned. Carnivale and Gagliardi were dealing cocaine and Carnivale flipped and recorded Gagliardi many times, so that's the most likely scenario. Gagliardi was already serving a long prison sentence by the time Anastasia mentioned it and died a few years later.
I've asked before but remember if I got a response but did ever come out who the two gunmen were in the attempt on Mike Ciancaglini in 1992? Mike suspected one was his brother Joey But who knows. With so many Stanfa guys flipping you figured it would have come out already.
