Re: Donnie Brasco mob associates question.
Has it ever come out the relationship Rastelli had with either Marangello or Cannone? I'm curious as to why Cannone wasn't demoted after Galante's murder.

Re: Donnie Brasco mob associates question.
I actually just read one of our older Bonanno threads and I asked same thing.Chris Christie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 12:24 pm Has it ever come out the relationship Rastelli had with either Marangello or Cannone? I'm curious as to why Cannone wasn't demoted after Galante's murder.
Both Cannone and Marangello positions stayed the same. It's interesting no one saw that as a distrustful move for both of them to be on the hit and remain in the admin.
But it gets conflicting bc it's been said both Sally Ferrugia and Catalano became the acting bosses for a time but neither could speak good english... so idk where they fit in....
Also movie tidbit - Boobir Cersani tried to sue the movie makers actually bringing them to court bc it said his name in the movie and he felt it brought negativity to his name.
Brasco aka Pistone (I guess really it should be other way around) also wrote a few fiction books. But all his fiction books followed the red mafiya taking over theory.
Including the really good book he wrote with Bill Bonanno. Interesting huh? That's called:

Re: Donnie Brasco mob associates question.
According to DB's first book: Marangello was demoted to soldier, Sal Catalano was upped from capo to "streetboss of the zips," and later on in the book it mentions Ferrugia as "acting boss." And then as per pogo there was also the panel consisting of Consig Cannone and Capos Phil Giaccone and Sonny Red Indelicato which lasted until September 1980.
Is this the correct admin set up post-Galante?

Thanks. They stayed as Capos. Catalano was "Street Boss" of the Zips (whatever that meant) and became Acting Boss in September 1980 after the panel was disbanded. He lasted until the spring of 1981 at which time another panel was put in place with Ferrugia, Massino and Napolitano.

Re: Donnie Brasco mob associates question.
Street boss of the zips follows along with the idea that the zips ran separately from the rest of the family. It's been said by lefty they were not liked very much as well as distrusted (I believe bc of the galante hit).
So since the Galante theory of bringing the zips over etc has now been debunked; who is responsible for bringing the zips over.
As well as when the zips came were they looked as made meN if already made?

Re: Donnie Brasco mob associates question.
I picked up Unfinished Business in the dollar bin a year or two ago and read most of it. It's basically Pistone giving chapter-long summaries of the most well-known mob cases from the 1980s and onward and giving reasons why he directly or indirectly was responsible for them coming about, along with re-hashing bits from "Donnie Brasco" and adding little bits here and there to play himself up.
If that sounds like criticism, that's because it is. "Brasco" is one of my all-time favorite books and even though it has its own narrative and spin, it stands up as one of the top five books on this subject I'd recommend to anyone. But there is no doubt Pistone went for a cash / publicity grab with the other book and I assume the book with Bill Bonanno I haven't read, plus some of the interviews that don't do much other than feed mob lore.
A few years back he testified in Canada apparently about the Montreal mafia. I brought it up again recently, but in his book he mentions that Tony Mirra apparently had someone from the Montreal Bonanno faction vouching for him in his beef about Brasco dealing heroin. I wish we knew more about who that was and how they got involved with Mirra in a drug beef against a random associate from another crew who happened to be an undercover agent. Aside from that, I can't imagine what insight Pistone could have given Canadian LE on the Montreal crew.

1. Bushwick and then Ridgewood, but he may have moved out to the burbs around the time he got killed
2. Middle Village
5. Middle Village (although I think he was originally from Ridgewood)
6. Little Italy (and later Staten Island?)
7. Same as his dad
8. Maspeth and then later Howard Beach. Not sure when the Howard Beach move was; either directly after he was made, or after he came out of Jail in 91? I know thats a big stretch, but basically he was raised in Maspeth and got a house on 84th street in HB when he started making money and having children
9. Didnt Sonny Black live in the same building as his club? If so, Withers Street...Williamsburg / Greenpoint area
10. I remember reading Bronx or Jersey. but i could be mixing him up with someone else

- Sonny Blacks place on Withers Street. was this still functional after he died? if not, the williamsburg guys must have been hanging out somewhere close by
- Toyland on Hester Street. was Marangello's place, was this still open after the Galante hit?
- Massino's place on Rust Street in Maspeth
- Spero's place on Bath Ave in Brooklyn, was open as far back as at least 1988 because I think thats the year that it got raided on a trumped up gambling bust. Massino's club above was raided as well
- Vitale opened his own place on Grand Ave in Maspeth when Massino was locked up. Theres a pic of this place with Vinny Asaro walking and talking outside while like half a dozen other Bonnanos are holding court close by
Other possibilities but I have no specifics on:
- There were quite a few Bonnanos (and other five family members) living in Knickerbocker Village back then. Lefty had a deli/club on Madison Street; I dont know specifics but there had to have been at least one other Bonanno club on Madison , Monroe, one of those streets at that time
- Francis Lewis Blvd club: Basciano was accused of killing somebody in a Bonnano club on Francis Lewis Blvd in the late 80s. Apparently it was a rumor and even though he had no specifics, DeFillipo had to tell Vitale. Basciano denied it nothing ever became of it, but whats interesting to me is that there was a club all the way out there. Id love to know whos club it was. Francis Lewis transverses a huge section of Queens, but doesnt really go through any traditional "mob neighborhoods" - cuts through a lot of upper middle class black areas. its still in NYC but as far on the outskirts as it gets

Re: Bonanno 1980's questions
Cesare Bonventre lived in southwest Brooklyn / Bensonhurst area I believe. He of course hung out and had operations in Middle Village area, but he took over for Frank Lupo who was a southwest Brooklyn guy, and Lupo had been associated with the former consigliere Joseph DiFilippi in that area. The Bonanno's presence in the southern end of Brooklyn doesn't get much attention aside from Spero, Pitera, and the Linos, but there were a number of guys around there.
Phil Giaccone was originally from Ridgewood / Middle Village but was living in Jamaica by the time he was a captain I believe.
Pollastrino lived in Westchester county, north of the Bronx. His crew spanned multiple boroughs but had a lot of the Bronx guys.
Ferrugia operated on the eastern edge of Queens. Not sure exactly where he lived.

According to his FBI file:B. wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 2:24 pm Cesare Bonventre lived in southwest Brooklyn / Bensonhurst area I believe. As of 1978, Salvatore Ferrugia lived at 84-14 250th St, Queens, NY.
The next jump in his file is 1980 and he's still at the same address.
