On a slightly different note JCB1977 shared a picture with me of a Good Picture of Whitey Besase from the Toledo, Ohio faction. I needed the photo to show my wife whether the Whitey that played cards with at the Akron Sicilian Club on Sunday mornings was the same as Whitey Besase.

The answer is NO

My wife began describing the Whitey that played cards with Jimmy Lafatch on Sunday mornings which didn't fit the picture at all. Although she said she seems to remember him (Whitey Besase). From the Old FBI Files from the 1960's Jimmy Lafatch and Whitey Besase were described as being close. So I needed to know whether these were the same guy.

Here are some Links from JCB1977 that backs up my stories about many things about Tony and Jimmy Lafatch and Whiskey Dick Percoco and other about the Akron Ohio Mafia early existence and its influence on Northeast Ohio.

FoF, recently I watched a documantry on PBS about Akron and the history of the tire industry.
Did the LaFatch crew have hooks into or influence over the tire companies and/or local unions
associated with those tire plants? The crew probably took bets; made shy loans,
but was there union control in Akron? Thanks, SP

Lafatch wasn't involved in the Rubber Unions. Of all the various conversation that wasn't a topic. The Tire Industry and being the Rubber Capital of the World was just something that they weren't into. The peripheral things that you mentioned was their style. Quaker Oats HQ was there since the Civil War. At one point it was the Toy Manufacturer of the United States. From the Rubber Capital of the World became the Polymer Capital of the World. When I was in College, the University of Akron kept trying to push me into Polymer Physics. I told them I am going to College so I don't have to work for the Damn Rubber Companies! Anyway there were a lot of first out of Akron including AA Alcoholics Anonymous.

Thanks for all the info! So Bill 'AA' Wilson was from Akron. Did not know about the Quaker Oats/Toy plants. As with all
the other blue collar manufacturing areas of the country, the mob was able to make big$ from the factory workers.
Factories go away, so does the big $. Thanks, FoF
