I wouldn't classify them as old timers. Corrozo and Cefalu are in their 70's - they're basically kids in the modern LCN.
Madonna wasn't a "major player" until the 90's when he was made after his long prison stretch. Rabito was made in what? The late 70's?

Salvatore Sparacio, 96, is scheduled to be released from a Springfield medical prison on May 4, 2020. He was given a 30-year sentence in 1996 for crimes relating to the Stanfa war. It's unfortunate, because although Sparacio was indicted with Frank Martines in a racketeering conspiracy that included murder, Sparacio was pretty much just linked to a big bookmaking operation. He was a capo at the time of his indictment.

Well, there was more than that. Murder conspiracy. I think there's a tape of Sparacio being told to be at a meeting so Merlino, Ciancaglini and Lucibello won't feel nervous so they can be killed. That's not bookmaking. That's agreeing to be part of a triple murder. And I still think he did something beyond book to get made in 82.

You're probably right, I just dug up an old article from his sentencing when Sonny asked. It sure implied that all Sparacio did was run a big bookmaking operation.

That's one of the weird things about Scarfo. He required Philly-based members to participate in murders in order to get made but this didn't seem to apply to North Jersey and some other guys outside of Philly proper. Sparacio was originally from Camden, which produced many violent members, and he was old enough to have easily participated in some kind of little-known murder or serious violence over the years, but he was also very close to Scarfo's cousin Tony Piccolo going back many years which may have factored in. He also may have been proposed under Angelo Bruno so his induction was already in motion before Scarfo took over. Aside from his long history with gambling, all I know is that Sparacio was involved in a safe burglary in the 1950s.

hes definitely up there in age...going to be 90 next year? i forget who maybe it was PizzaBoy, used to say on the other boards that Dom is essentially retired and moved from the Bronx to Long Beach LI and just hangs out at a bar on the main drag there all day.

i wish I could find the article but years and years ago I remember reading a "profile" peice on Dom...maybe it was in the NY Sun when Capeci was writing there? that gave some great info on him. quoted cops / feds that investigated him. something that stuck out to me was that when they were tailing him, he would wake up in the morning, stop at a bakery, and drive down to East Harlem to bring pastries to and have coffee with older relatives. i thought jesus how much older can these relatives be? because at that point he was in his 70s. it also said he claimed to have been a retired something or other, surviving off a $500 social security check each month

was Dom's position as "messenger" overstated? i took it as he was a messenger who met with other families, yet with all the rats from that late 80s / early 90s era we dont have anyone talking about meets with him? was his position as an internal messenger? relaying messages from Gigante to other admin members and capos?
