Lucchese- Gambino conflict

Post by slimshady_007 »

I have some questions regarding the gambino- luchese conflict that occurred around 92-93. Why didnt the lucheses ever go through with thier plan to kill junior gotti in 93’? I remember reading that gaspipe casso told his men that the gambinos killed luchese soldier pat testa, and that the lucheses needed to extract revenge. Did the two families call peace in a sitdown? Also, is it true that casso made up the story about the gambinos killin pat testa? Ive also read that casso made up the story about the gambinos whacking testa to justify a war. Feel free to reply.

The Lucccheses killed Testa. I'm sure the family had bigger things to worry about in 1993 than killing Junior Gotti.

So testa got clipped for just knowing too much? Amuso and casso were waaay too paranoid. Also, was anyone ever charged with the testa hit?

Did the gambinos and lucheses call peace eventually after casso and amuso were arrested?

id imagine the rank and file in each family probably didnt know too much about it, and on top of that, both families were probably focusing on the aftermath of their admins being brought down...plus gravano, d'arco and casso all flipping. both groups had a lot to worry about.

i think the time period between amuso getting captured and casso getting captured was probably the craziest for the luccheses. it seemed like thats when casso was giving out his most egregious orders. i forget the source, it may have been casso's book with carlo (and even casso's own claims id take with a grain of salt) , but i remember something about a plan that casso had to bust amuso out of jail, and later for his crew to bust him out of being transported to jail himself.

i have no idea why casso would decide to go after the gambinos when he was on the run. he knew their admin was fractured and maybe it was an opportunity to grab a few things for himself, but it just seems insane - even for him - to try and start a war while he was on the run and presumably had bigger and more pressing things to worry about.

the two families seemed to have co-existed after 86 when they blew DeCicco up, and it doesnt seem like Casso would be the type to hold personal what Gotti did and get delayed vengeance "on behalf of LCN" like some big honorable thing, when he was one of the most selfish, greedy, opportunistic mob members that we know about.

maybe he has his own reasons that we'll never know about, beyond some power play. im going to check D'Arco's book about it, but I dont remember any of that being mentioned; it may have happened after D'Arco flipped. in the book when casso/amuso were on the run, they used Patty Testa to contact Al, used Testa and Testa's grandmother's house in Canarsie for meetings, and used cars provided by Testa to move around. it seemed like even though Al was relaying orders to the street, Patty Testa knew more specific details on where C & A were located and how they moved around.

the whole thing doesnt make any sense. werent they going to hit Nick Corozzo too?

cant edit the post, but as far as general beefs go, I think there were a couple between the two families, but it seemed like regular daily gangster life shit.

Corozzo's Canarsie crew, the younger guys who were associates at that time, were always having problems with a similar, young Canarsie Lucchese crew (im going to guess associates of THE canarsie crew? d'arco, cutaia, et. al. )

On the "Manhattan Mob Rampage" Nat Geo doc, D'Arco said they had some sitdowns with Gravano and there was some sort of beef there. D'Arco said Gravano and his guys would duck the Luccheses. Not sure what that was about...maybe the Castellano thing...or maybe construction since Sammy was big into that . then there is that picture of gotti, sammy, amuso and casso meeting at a restaurant in Bay Ridge.

Casso also learned from his law enforcement source that Gotti and Gravano were going to be arrested, and passed the message to them using D'Arco and John Gammerano.

Who knows what Casso's deal was. but whatever was going on between them, I wouldnt call it a war...

Casso hitting Lino is/was a big hit I would think.
I forgot the reason?? Was it supposedly Lino ordered the attempt hit on Casso where he was hit but not killed. Ended up killing a innocent kid over the drama

For whatever reason, It also seems if they went after Nicky C that would have probably stArted some shit.. Nicky had a huge crew and this is around the times he was believed to be boss.

Actually.... no this conflict was before he was believed to be boss

The 2 families had a lot of bad blood around the early 90’s. Bobby borielo and eddie lino were both clipped by the Lucheses. I don’t believe the gambinos ever retaliated but either way, the lucheses whacked 2 made guys prob due to one of many disputes between the families.

Anyone know how old Lastorino is ? Is he active? Wonder where he stands now that Maddona and Crea are locked awaiting trial.

Lastorino was Acting Consigliere from 1991-1993 (he was also on the ruling panel). Funari remained Official Consigliere up till 1996.
