I'm ignorant when it comes to Philly so if I'm wrong let me know, but does Merlino's wife work (or show income as well)? If she makes decent money then Merlino can show shitty income with a nice place or say his income every month simply goes into the house because his wife makes enough to pay the bills, etc. But like I said I don't know shit about Philly though.
If I didn't have my case coming up, I would like to come back with you gentlemen when this is over with and really lay the law down what is going on in this country.....

SonnyBlackstein wrote: Fri Jul 27, 2018 6:02 pm @ Confederate: that’s the key issue. Illegal gain. I am of the opinion that seizure through debt would likely be, cough, unlikely, but I am STRONGLY of the opinion that if gained through unlawful means, it would be game on.

Otherwise everyone from Pablo Escobar to El Chapo to ‘name a medallion cartel leader here’ would have mansions untouched and shiny new in Florida. Obviously that’s, NOT, the case.

@Snakes: BOOOOO!
Yes, that could be. There are many questions that would have to be answered. For example: Is the house in Merlino's name? When did Merlino buy the House in Florida if it is in his name? How did Merlino buy the House? Is the House all paid or is there a Mortgage? What funds were used to buy the House? The Feds would have to find out the answer to these questions and then assuming the House was bought in his name, they would have to PROVE that Merlino bought the House with illegal gains. I think all of that is difficult to prove, but possible.

Pablo Escobar would be much easier to prove for obvious reason. Merlino compared to him would be like comparing a grade school football team to the Miami Dolphins.
Not really.

If Merlino lodges tax returns indicating an income of say $50k a year and the house was $4mill for example, then the feds would have no problem.
It’s about proving a legitimate income vs lifestyle lived. That’s all.
And if you can’t prove it, within reason, and the feds can show cause it was illicitly gained. Goodbye.
No ones ‘comparing’ Merlino to Pablo Escobar. I was indicating if property gained via illegal means could not be siezed, then every drug kingping and criminal in the world would have property in Florida.
And that’s just not the case.

Ask Ronald Giallanzo why he’s selling his house?
I remember someone here said before she has a legitimate job with a nice income...and the house is in her name not Joey's. Shows it on the listing.

I know his wife was obviously working when he was doing his long bid and her and her daughters were living in wayside nj near asbury park and they were living with debs parents... since he's been back on the street theblast several years though it looks like she's right next to him living the life of leisure.. sure she feels like she earned being pampered and not having to work now after sticking with Joey through those bids raising 2 girls. I mean Joey went away when his daughters were tiny and he got out when they were almost done with high school.. wonder how that affected his girls... it had to have fucked then up hearing and reading things about their dad and not having him around the majority of their lives..... but since he's been out they sure seem to be proud to be their fathers daughters.... I bet it comes with its perks.

Thanks. Curious about the early 70s for Ciancaglini. Leonetti has him being made late (1976 or 77).

Pogo
This was from a PA senate report. I personally leaned toward him being made later as well. There were a few names proposed for membership in the late 1960s that are unidentified and we know he had already participated in a hit for the family by the late 1960s, so it's possible he could have been one of them, but I would guess he was made after Frank Sindone.
The bit about Ciancaglini being made in the early 1970s was in the 1983 NJ senate report, but I thought I saw it in another report, too.

Just my opinion of course
If Joey claims residency in Florida, his assets (home) will be protected under the Homestead Exemption Act, meaning it could NEVER be seized by the Feds. Which is why the head of Worldcom and other business executives who were convicted of embezzlement/cooking the books all have homes there. OJ moved there so the Browns and Goldman’s couldn’t legally go after his assets.
How sure are you of this?
Florida Law protects homeowners who are permanent Florida residents from a seizure or forced sale to satisfy creditors. Some States will limit the amount of protection, but under Florida law the Homestead Protection is unlimited. I seriously doubt the Feds could seize his home in Florida as long as Merlino has filed for the Homestead Exemption and has a valid Florida Driver's License. However, that being said, If the Feds could prove that Merlino used illegal money to purchase the Home in Florida, that might be different and would have to be researched. I still doubt it.
I’m certain. Joey did not own the home he was living in. He doesn’t have that kind of cash. He was staying at the house. If he sells in PA and buys in FL, everything will have to go in his wife’s name.

There was an article about him and they called the owner of his house in Florida and he said he has no idea Joey was living there which means not only does he not own it but the lease is probably in someone else’s name. The rolls Royce wasn’t in his name either

thanks for the info. was always curious about 10th and O and whether or not their importance was overstated.

re: Nicodemo...where did he come from? hangaround neighborhood guy who got involved...typical story? is it true he was Merlino's driver and protégée at one point? I read that somewhere.

in the Prevete book theres a pic of the entire merlino crew at some social club and Nicodemo, couldnt have been more than like 17, is sitting front and center

Im low key rooting for Merlino. its cartoonish how he operates and how the feds havent been able to really "get" him on anything strong. from an outsiders perspective its hilarious. the funniest shit is that snitch Jon Rubeo from NY was saying Merlino is still burning people and ripping people off like he was doing when hes a kid, but hes such a fun / charasmatic guy that no one bothere to make an issue about it. its like a part of his personality and people just accept hes probably gonna chisel them LOL

totally anecdotal, but my barber (hes in his late 30s) grew up in South Philly and said Merlino would let young kids playing outside into his cafe and gamble with them and take losers bets to let the kids win. he told me a story of Merlino playing some young kid in a game of pool and if the kid won, Merlino would give him $500 and if Merlino won, the kid had to cough up five bucks. apparently Merlino let the kid win and gave him the $500

Joey never had and never will have the type of money that long standing mob bosses had. Not even close. He's a degenerate. Pure and simple. He'd have had a better career at being a jockey than a mob boss. He has and always live above his means.

Honest question: What do you think he makes per year?
