Refresh my memory. Who were the guy's involved? Thanks.

Did Capone farm out the hit? I don't recall if the killers were members of the Outfit.

Most were St. Louis guys, affiliated with something called Egan's Rats, and non-Italian. (They were called Capone's "American Boys".)Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 2:42 pm Did Capone farm out the hit? I don't recall if the killers were members of the Outfit.
Sending in notorious Chicago Italian gangsters in as fake cops wouldn't have worked.
Winkeler and Goetz later became part of the Outfit, but both were wacked out under Nitti. These guys were all killed or died in jail eventually.

I was confused, was it Capone who told them to kill?

Capone was almost certainly ultimately behind it, yes.

I forgot to mention that there is apparently more evidence that Claude Maddox was the mastermind rather than McGurn. I don't have my books in front of me, so I forget the details.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 7:37 pm Thanks Ivan. So the theory of Jack McGurn playing a role in the actual hit was just a myth? Thanks.
Capone probably really did order it from the top though.

I will agree with Hoffa being the best hit ever , 2nd Paul castelano comes in second for the sheer balls to pull that off, gotti watching in a car etc

But why the link to McGurn and the massacre when he got wacked. Didn't the killers of McGurn leave a valentine card on his body??Villain wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 10:32 pmMaddox and Capezio...those were the main guysIvan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 9:33 pmI forgot to mention that there is apparently more evidence that Claude Maddox was the mastermind rather than McGurn. Re: Best hit in the lcn
I think his killing on Valentine's Day was just a coincidence. IIRC, the valentine card was something that McGurn already had in his possession, and that thing about the killers leaving it on his body as a symbol was just a legend that arose later.Frank wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 11:03 pmBut why the link to McGurn and the massacre when he got wacked. What do you think of the rumor that Moran hunted down Bob Carey in New York and whacked him personally as revenge? Apparently later in life Moran would get drunk and brag about it, but it seems far-fetched to me.
