what is the phone scam???
more then the casinos???

more then the gas!?! I'm pretty sure that was the biggest pay off scam.... ever

If you believe it was LCN related, then the Kennedy assassination is the best hit by far.

I don't see why that one would stick out. We could give you a list of a hundred guys who just disappeared. It's not like Avicolli was some high profile upper echelon mobster. If we're going with people who just disappeared I don't think you can top Hoffa. That was and continues to be national news. Doesn't get more high profile than that and after countless investigations by law enforcement and journalists/authors we still don't know for sure what happened.

The amount of resources government spent on the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa has to dwarf anyone else in the history of this country and they still have not found him.

I was thinking of a "somewhat recent" hit with the Dutchie murder by Borgesi and Merlino in the 90s up to present day with DNA, Cameras on every block, GPS, etc. Yes the Hoffa hit is the cleanest hit of all time.

Recent research has revealed pretty much who did it. So, it's not proven, but it's not a total mystery anymore.

This isn't 100% confirmed and never will be, but based on the best research:

Probable shooters/"fake cops"

Fred "Killer" Burke
Fred Goetz
Ray "Crane Neck" Nugent
Bob Carey

Probable driver

Gus Winkeler

Probable lookouts

Jimmy "The Swede" Morand
Byron Bolton

Thanks Ivan. So the theory of Jack McGurn playing a role in the actual hit was just a myth? Thanks.

He may have been involved in the planning. There's no way Capone would be dumb enough to send him in as a "fake cop", Moran's guys would have recognized him and started shooting back. Same with Anselmi, Scalise, and Joseph Lolordo.

I'm not even going to bother addressing Roemer's assertion that Tony Accardo was a shooter. I'll let you assess that yourself on its own "merits".

If the evidence we have now (i.e., Byron Bolton's confession, etc.) was combined with the evidence available back then (one of the actual machine guns used was found in his possession), Fred Burke at least would almost have certainly gotten the chair for the massacre.

I think it was johnny g grammarano not Steven.

The Capone era is almost as known/TV episodes as gotti. Lots of actual good movies that are close to real events.

St Valentine day massacre
Capone - black and white version. Everything is really close to true except very end they have him killed in prison for some reasons...
Nitti the enforcer - great movie

Also there's a Stallone Capone also
