I believe the it came from that book 'I heard You Paint Houses'. Sounds like bullshit.

They were involved in the garbage business in their area and I believe they had a small piece of the garment center in NYC.

At their peak they had maybe 30 or so members. They were never a big family. A report from 1991 had them down to 11 made members.

I'm not sure. I know Bufalino wasn't on the Commission.

Here is the link from the Citizens Voice to Bufalino's FBI file, which is quite large:

This guy had a hell of a run for many years, you look up the phrase "a big fish in a little pond" and there would be a picture of the old man staring at you. Not much out there on him, as the Quiet Don by Birbeck wasn't exactly a comprehensive biography on him. Very interesting reading.

Actually a big cash cow for this family was brokering illegal and legal landfills from the Poconos to Scranton area and beyond. Allot of the NY families brought their waste out to PA thru the 70s and early 80s when the heat came down on them in nj and NY. Buffalino made allot of money doing this. I am sure there are allot of illegal dumps thru out PA that are yet to be discovered.

According to the 1990 PA Crime Commission Report, in 1980, there were 33 members of the bUfalino Family. Bufalino actually had a big piece of the Garment industry, as many of the factories for the Garment Center were located in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Hazelton area. Bufalino's main source of income was definitely labor racketeering, as he controlled many of the locals in Northeastern PA, Delaware and had his hands in many joint ventures into Havana Casinos with Gabriel Mannarino from Pittsburgh, his closest friend in the rackets. If I'm not mistaken, I believe at their height they had between 60-70 members. However, that was more the less between 1940's-1960's.

Correct, and after Russell Bufalino died in 1994, Billy D'Elia continued with waste hauling with the Youngstown faction of the Pittsburgh Family, as there were several dump sites and a new site in Poland Township, OH just west of the Hillsville, PA state line: See the link below from the Youngstown Vindicator in February of 1994:

Yep. The big cash cow is controlling the landfills. They get normal kick backs based on the amount of waste dumped there via the weighing stations. Then extra cash for the toxic shit they allow dumped there. My olde man told me as a kid that the NY mob has dumped so much toxic and illegal waste in Mob controlled landfills(and the unkown illegal dumpsites from NJ's pine barrines to the poconos) that if you were to view earth from space the Tri-State area would have a yellowish-green glow at night...lol

Just google SUPER FUND SITES, some crazy shit there along with the usual farm land using certain chemicals to treat the crops to some company polluting a stream.

The Bufalino's worked very closely with Pittsburgh as well as the Youngstown faction, as Joey Naples and Lenny Strollo owned dump sites and had a partnership with Russell going back to the 1970's when Big Dom Mallamo
and his nephew Jimmy Prato were in charge. Billy D'Elia came to Youngstown often, check out this article in the local Youngstown newspaper.

This thread should be at 5 pages by now, Bufalino was one of the most influential and mysterious mob bosses in history. His connections and relationship with mob families across the country was vast. A comprehensive biography on RB needs to be done, I liked Matt Birbeck's book, but was truly looking for in depth info on RB.
