What was the whole point of Capeci sayin in 2011 that pete stepped down?
I don't know for sure but his sources made it sound like that particular change in leadership was the official end to the Gotti era and the beginning of the Sicilian faction era. Maybe because the other acting bosses D'Amico and Squintieri were thought of as Gotti loyalists and Cefalu wasn't. But both Cefalu and Cali had ties to D'Amico.

yes it absolutely made it seem like "end of the gotti era"

he even said "despite Gurinos connections" to late boss

so i find it very odd that Peter Gotti we found out later was still boss. I just wanna know does he get envelopes?? any drama comes his way??? etc

He must’ve had some influence after his arrest. Mikey scars said pete demoted him after his arrest.

he was, i guess u can say, influential after his brother went away. He participated in Window Scam as well as other things. I think we kinda dispelled the "dumb don" myth. and some have even said Pete's reign was longer then Snrs.

for him to STILL have the title.... I think symbolically means SOMETHING ... I WISH Gene would come out and start kickin ass n take the crown. but i like Hollywood stories.... except Rizzuto did do that...

I think MONEY is substantial and should be enough
I'd say.... but Dom hasn't asked me lately.
I love quoting Felices post.... lol, he said GENE WANTS A POSITION. whatever that means.... but he's gonna be on high parole!! AND the gotti movie will be coming out soon!!!

Back when Pete was on the street, he did have authority. Surveillance caught him at meetings receiving tribute, he attended the last known Commission meeting, etc. As for now, that question was already answered by Capeci. Pete, who is effectively serving a life sentence, is now simply the titular boss but doesn't have any power.

I doubt Gene will be bumped up to capo as soon as he walks out of prison. I mentioned this in another thread but a promotion to capo isn't something you can hand out without a second thought. You have to either demote another capo or split a crew in half.

They might throw him a piece of the Cement and Concrete Workers' Union because of Gene's longstanding connection to Ralph Scopo Jr., and the fact that after Scopo Jr.'s death, the Luccheses and Gambinos discussed how they would divvy it up for themselves. That'a a bit of a stretch though.

Felice is also Italian. Which means all his posts are in his SECOND language.

I assume your second language is far superior in linguistic skill and would never leave room for misinterpretation or mistake?

Again, disagree. A guy can have the title without a crew.

Or a crew can even be created. But it’s not a necessity.

Corallo ducks’s driver was a Capo and his job was to just drive the boss around in his non Italian sports car all day.

It is to a boss’s discretion whether someone gets their stripes. They don’t have a set number of skippers or crews, it’s discretionary.

Are you talking about Sal Avellino Jr. Because he definitely had a crew under him, as well as other interests besides driving Corallo around. I believe Avellino ran the trash hauling rackets on Long Island.

And sure, a new crew can be created for Gene. But that involves transferring soldiers from other crews. And, if those soldiers are kicking upstairs to their capo, that's less income for that particular capo.

Are there any other examples of a person being a captain in name alone?

Robert DiBernardo was a Capo without a Crew. In his case Gotti didn't want to promote him and only did after DeCicco and Gravano talked him into it. Frank Polizzi of the DeCavalcantes was another one (he had associates but no made members).

I've heard DiBernardo be labelled a soldier direct with admin.

By the way, what would the perks be for being a capo with no crew under you?

DiBernardo was briefly a Capo before he was killed. Gravano talks about it in his book.

Interesting. Thanks Pogo.

Did his duties change in any way as "capo?"
