They're obviously not about the American mob but Gomorrah and Suburra are good shows about Italian OC and help to fill the Sopranos void a little. And there's also Narcos and El Chapo, both good shows about the Colombian and Mexican cartels. Still lots to watch.

Cannot highly recommend Gomorra enough.

If you haven’t seen the third season, and the climax, do so.

Suburra is also on Netflix. Like Gomorrah, there was a movie first before the series. There's only been one season so far but I believe a second is in the works. What's interesting about it is, while Gomorrah is obviously about the Camorra in Naples, Suburra deals with crime groups in Rome that aren't a part of the 4 major established Italian crime groups. It's partly based on the group in the link below. Another group in the show is an Italian/gypsy clan.

Ringleader of 'mafia-style' gang in Rome is jailed for 20 years

yeah i hear where you guys are coming from. definitely underestimate how niche this really is sometimes, being in the bubble & reading about it so much. but i think the colombo war story, especially with the scarpa situation, had some unique aspects that would make for good tv. shit even a show about scarpa himself. some of that stuff is really stranger than fiction

wiseguy - i hear ya on the sopranos too. for me, the LCN gangsterism stuff on there was a very distant runner up...almost an afterthought...compared to his home life, the modern suburban life dynamic, and all the other layers that show had that i could type way too much about right now. not to mention how hilarious the show was

Yeah and look how many years it took them to get it off the ground. Then look how long it took them to find a distributor. Have they even found one yet? Unless I'm mistaken it doesn't look like it will even get a theater release. From the looks of things this will almost surely be a big money loser. And all this with a big name actor in Travolta attached to it. The mob has a very small and very niche audience at this point. That is why there is such little interest in mob projects. Sometimes we underestimate that on the forums.

Yep. The general population, and I would bet most production companies, have zero interest in doing anything about the Colombo War. I mean, how more generic can you get? Italian guys in Brooklyn killing each other for control of the crime family. Nothing unique or original there. It's essentially already been done, in one form or another, several times over.

If The Sopranos had only been about the mob, it would probably never have been greenlighted in the first place, let alone had the success it did. It was the fresh approach of looking at a mobster's psyche, his personal family, as well as the mixture of comedy and drama that gave it such widespread appeal.
You should be a movie reviewer.

once the new Scorsese movie comes out there will probably be a little mob buzz.

i dont have cable but it seems there's a few good mafia history shows. making of the mob season 1 and 2. American hero channel has a series called Mobs Greatest Hits e episodes on Galante, Gallo, Masseria, few others. and then u got the American Gangster shows etc.

and they just made the Rizzuto war show. I never got to watch it unfrotuantly... that's probably close as ull get.

there's a really good movie that is on the Casso era w name changes. called One Deadly Road. its one of the best B movie mafia movies

Getting paid to watch movies and give your opinion? Definitely worse ways to make a living.

The Irishman will get some buzz because of Scorsese's name, as well as it having a lot of legendary actors, some of whom were in the classic mob films that Scorsese is known for.

All the Rizzuto war got was a relatively low-budget mini-series.

as well as pacino never had been in a Scorsese movie. I'm kinda suprised he chose that book to do the movie on...
it really has high standards to follow.

I personally thought Black Mass wasn't that bad. Much better then recently released Wannabe about the Uvinos who were also in Rob The Mob. it completely told a different story though...
a very good movie called The Banker came out with Richie from Sopranos. that was really good and recommend it.
Personal favorite Boston movie that I recommended before, By The Gun. Harvey Keitel is boss.
Has anyone seen a brand new I believe Russian Mafiya movie called "Brooklyn is ours" or something like that?? it's with Harvey Keitel as well... it came out within last 4 months
Good Tony Sirico movie that is new(er) is called Zarras Law.

older movies but great:
-Men Of Respect
-Brooklyn Boys
-Amongst Friends
-One Deadly Road (Great Movie!!! Casso story)
-Honor Thy Father
-Don is Dead (another great movie)
-The BrotherHood
