A very good example of how the networks seem to converge, and diverge at different points. And on the American end, it's almost exclusively Gambino and Bonnanos...

All these people, Caruana-Cuntrera, Badalamenti, John Gambino, Nick Rizzuto, Salvatore Greco, the Napolis, they were all partners at the top.

Something that always stuck out to me, was Gaspare Mutolo getting a 400 kilo load of heroin. Half went to the Caruanas (Not the Rizzutos...) and the other half to John Gambino. So I always thought these were the two groups, and these guys were in control.

50s was a free for all. 40s I say Luchesses hands down...

Late 70s early 80s...Gambinos. mid to late 80s Bonnanos? Maybe??

From the late 1980s-late 1990s/early 2000s they were probably the family most involved with drugs. During that period they had the most drug cases with several made members busted for dealing everything from heroin, to crack and weed.

Weren't the Luccheses the most involved with the French Connection in the 60s?

The Bonanno and Gambino were the most heavily involved through their zips factions, although I believe the so called Pizza Connection (named so by the media) was to describe the Bonanno operation.

I think the Lucchese might have drugs as the largest % of their own income.

I believe that is correct.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

I've allways assumed the bonanno and Gambinos we're separated and not part of same pizza connection.

Maybe that after Riina won the war that was when castellan began getting his cut?

So we got:

60- gen

70-??

80- bonanno Zips

90- Luke's
That's why you don't assume anything. Especially when George Sciascia/Bonanno(Montreal faction) was supplying Angelo Ruggiero/Sal with Heroin.
Well that kind of backs up my thoughts of how the Bonanno Zips were not under the Gambinos.

Regardess that was after pizza connection I believe

60 - Genovese

Who for 70s??

I was reading another thread were a poster claimed the Gambino and bonanno zips we're the same and that really the Gambinos ran the pizza connection bc castellan got a cut.
There were two main factions in the "Pizza Connection" Trial during the mid 1980's. One was headed by Gaetano Badalamenti and the other was headed by Salvatore Catalano who was a Captain in the Bonanno Family. Badalamenti was with the Cinisi Clan in Sicily. Soooo, I would say the Zips in the Bonanno Family were more involved in the "Pizza Connection" than any Zips in any of the other Families in New York but that is merely an opinion.
A lot of the other guys convicted were relatives of Badalamenti and were Sicilian Zips.
The Pizza Connection was a reference to the end point of the drugs - they were being sold in pizzerie. But the earlier portion of the trafficking was full of many different collaborations. Two main pipelines, one was controlled by "uncle" and that was Badalamenti and focused in mid west since the 1960s at least and the other one was managed by Pippo Bono and the drugs came through Canada.

Next to Pippo Bono it was Joe Ganci and Toto Catalano. I'm not sure, but I suspect those two might be related through Joe Ganci's wife. Also, part of this group was Giuseppe Lamberti and he was in contact with the group of Badalamenti.

Sometimes, Badalamenti's nephews were supplying the group around Pippo Bono. Giuseppe Lamberti was trusted and he visited Badalamenti in Brazil twice in 1982. Riina gave him an order to trick Badalamenti to come in New York and there they will kill him, but Badalamenti was too cunning to fall in this trap.

So

60s- Genovese

70s- lukes w the French connection ???

80s- Bonanno Zips

90s- Lukes?

2000s - Gambinos ????

also you know what i found interesting is that Brasco was asked twice about making sure he wasnt involved with drugs. Rabito and Santora both were in the crew... these busts came way later but im sure they were doing something back then as well.

what roll could be said about the zips w the 3 capo war?
at first they supported sonny red side and then switched to massino/Napolitano side making them win.

In the Donnie Brasco case itself it was confirmed that both Santora and Rabito were into quaaludes. They were busted for it IIRC.

Just realized I have French connection in 70s. Wen it was previously stated in the 60s.

Also, Matty Madonna supplied Nicky Barnes... Which I believe was the 70s. Was the purple gang around in the 70s?

I agree . John Oremnto crew had a huge drug network for decades . Some of his crew ended up running the garment center and Teamsters trucking unions . A book on him and his crew would be awesome IMO

Him and Vito were from the same area I think , 107th street area I believe
