Paul Meskil's Don Carlo: Boss of Bosses Chart
Came across this buried away.
1 How accurate is the chart?
2 Would it make a good photo chart?

Re: Paul Meskil's Don Carlo: Boss of Bosses Chart
Looks pretty accurate. Here are some additions/corrections.
-By this point Paul Castellano was functioning as Acting Boss.
-Joe Riccobono was demoted as Consiglieri in 1967 with Joseph N. Gallo replacing him.
-Mario Traina was Acting Capo for his father Giuseppi Traina.
-Nicola “Nicholas" Patti was a Capo during this era.
-Peter “Petey Pumps” Ferrara died in 1969 (same year as this chart) with Salvatore "Toddo" Aurello taking over his crew.
-Frank Rizzo was a Soldier under Peter Stincone. Maybe he was Acting for him during this period?
-Not sure if Giacomo Scarpula was a Capo. This chart is the only reference to him I have ever seen. Perhaps others will have more on him.
And of course there were no where near 1,000 Soldiers. By 1969 they would have dipped well below 300 members. Remember they hadn't made any new members in 13 years by this time. They were listed at 230 made members when the books opened again in 1976.

Always thought Jimmy the Clam was acting Capo for the Castellano crew during this period. After Big Paul was elected as Boss, there had been a falling out over Jimmy's son around this time and Paul named Nino Official Capo of his crew.Chris Christie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 7:40 pm Thanks.

Re: Paul Meskil's Don Carlo: Boss of Bosses Chart
It´s pretty accurate. It´s actually a copy of what the FBI had on the Gambino Family 1969. Pogo´s corrections fully accurate. Scarpula may have been just acting possibly for Paul Gambino (who is not on the chart). Mike Caiazza (Dellacroce´s man) is also not on the chart. He should be there. Joe "From the Bronx" Gambino should also be there. He had a crew created for him in 1967.Chris Christie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 7:40 pm Thanks.

Rizzo was given appr half of Napolitano´s guys and was made a skipper sometime after 1965. Rizzo´s crew basically based in Queens, Napolitano´s in East Harlem. (JD´s info.)
Stincone had a caporegime consisting of 10 old timers. He had an insurance office located in Astoria, Queens.
No specific info on Castellano´s acting but if he had one, perhaps Jimmy Eppolito, Frank Guglielmini or Paul Masotto served in that capacity.
There you have it, never printed before.
Re: Paul Meskil's Don Carlo: Boss of Bosses Chart
I just mentioned this in the Philly thread, but Thomas Masotto was arrested in 1968 during a restaurant meeting in NYC along with bosses Carlo Gambino, Angelo Bruno, Joe Colombo, Genovese captain Vincent Alo, and Colombo soldier John Scimone. Scimone was direct with Colombo which may explain his presence, but given the ranks of those in attendance it makes me wonder if Thomas Masotto was Castellano's acting captain at this time. I think it was you who mentioned he was ID'd as a captain in an article at the time of Gambino's death, so there could be something to it.HairyKnuckles wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 11:43 pmIt´s pretty accurate. Yeah. I have also seen Guglielmini mentioned as a captain around this time (1970sh) (not sure if it was in a FBI report or a news article) and Eppolito is sometimes referred to as have been a captain (he was under Castellano). All this makes me believe the three of them were acting for Castellano at different times (replacing eachother).B. wrote: ↑Tue Apr 03, 2018 12:05 amI just mentioned this in the Philly thread, but Thomas Masotto was arrested in 1968 during a restaurant meeting in NYC along with bosses Carlo Gambino, Angelo Bruno, Joe Colombo, Genovese captain Vincent Alo, and Colombo soldier John Scimone. Re: Paul Meskil's Don Carlo: Boss of Bosses Chart
Eppolito was a soldier in the Gaggi crew in the 1970s, but he had been captain of separate crew before that, probably taking over for his brother Freddy after his death, who took over at least part of the Johnny Roberts crew.HairyKnuckles wrote: ↑Tue Apr 03, 2018 12:16 am Yeah. Re: Paul Meskil's Don Carlo: Boss of Bosses Chart
1 Acting Captains include Mario Traina, Paul Masotto (?), Frank Guglielmini (?), Jimmy Eppolito?
2 This design won't allow for showing which acting captain is with who, so if we need to list all three men as Acting it will work.
3 Not really a concern when it comes to accurate info, but with everyone it puts us at 32. For design purposes, if there's no one else to add, then perhaps 1 more recently deceased captain?
So:
David Amadeo
Domenico Arcuri
Salvatore Aurello
Michael Caiazza
Joseph Colozzo
Pasquale Conte
Frank Corbi
Vincent Corrao
Charles Dongarra
James Eppolito
Carmine Fatico (?)
Peter Ferrara - Deceased
James Failla
Joseph Gambino
Paolo Gambino
Paul Massoto (?) - Acting
Anthony Napolitano
Joseph Paterno
Nicola Patti
Frank Perrone
Frank Rizzo
Gaetano Russo
Giacomo Scarpula - Acting
Anthony Scotto
Anthony Sedotto
Joseph Silesi
Peter Stincone
Giuseppe Traina
Mario Traina - Acting
Ettore Zappi
Joseph Zingaro

Charles "Charlie Wagons" Fatico may have also been a Capo by 1969. He was one by the very early 70s.

Re: Paul Meskil's Don Carlo: Boss of Bosses Chart
James Eppolito is listed as a captain already by 1964 so B is right. I don´t know when exactly his crew was merged with Castellano´s but I think it´s safe to say that he was official captain when that list (of 1969) was made. So sometime after that, I would guess in 1970, his crew and Castellano´s were merged.
Chris, Thomas Masotto and Frank Guglielmini not acting captains at the same time but successively. Not sure who was first but like B said, Masotto was high enough to participate in meetings with bosses, so probably him. He may have been replaced by Guglielmini after the bust but I have no info on that. And by the looks of it, Scarpula may have just been an acting captain (for Paul Gambino). Peter Ferrara died in July 1969, was that prior to when the chart was made or after? If it was prior, he should be on your chart.

I can or cannot add Ferrara depending on space. Right now I have 3 rows of 9 that - for design purposes - I'd like to keep even, We stand at 31 names now. If we have no other living captains to add to go up to 33 I'll just delete Ferrara and bring us to an even 30. That Work?

Exclude the acting captains and just put the official captains on the chart. May I suggest you put an asterix next to the official ones showing they had acting captains?Chris Christie wrote: ↑Tue Apr 03, 2018 5:52 am I can or cannot add Ferrara depending on space. I can either remove deceased Ferrara putting us at 30 (3 rows of 10) or I can leave him and add two more deceased names (3 rows of 11). I was going to invert all the photos but if I have deceased members I can just invert them to distinguish from the living.
Fatico first identified as a captain in 1972 by informant. I could be wrong, but I don´t believe he was a captain in 1969. I think there was a little bit of a shake up in or around 1970 when Corrao was demoted. Perhaps Fatico was made captain then?
