I find it hilarious that he says he is always broke..and I believe it 100%. The Philly Borgata isn't bringing in anywhere near what they once did. No more "big money." This fucking guy doesn't have two nickels to rub together and he's a boss? Regardless if he has Jacobs for a defense, guarantee Joey had to scrimp and chase money for a deposit with this guy.

This must be the tape that George Anastasia Joey finished that statement by saying he into saving guys now, not killing them. Bet Jacobs plays that part about 5 times on cross.

Reputed Philadelphia mob boss Joseph Merlino gave two Mafia associates the skinny on murder during a 2014 sit-down.

“Listen, it’s easy to kill somebody,” the 55-year-old gangster declared in a secretly-recorded conversation played Thursday in Manhattan Federal Court.

“It’s simple,” he continued. “Get in the car and shoot you in the f---ing head and you’re dead.”

The cold-blooded comment emerged during a “Sopranos”-style chat between Merlino, reputed Genovese family capo Eugene (Rooster) O’Nofrio and Genovese associate-turned-rat John Rubeo.

As Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” played in the background, the trio sat in an unidentified restaurant discussing their love of family and whether a specific mobster was protected.

The February 2014 chatter was interrupted by the occasional “Salute!” as the mobsters raised their glasses in toasts.

In another recorded conversation, O’Nofrio delivered a menacing message to Rubeo about his brother-in-law’s missed $600 interest payment on a $30,000 mob loan.

“What do I got to do with him?” O’Nofrio asked. “Do you have to take his eyes out? ... I don’t want you to get upset because he’s your brother-in-law.

“I don’t know what the f--- he thinks he is. Who does he think he’s f---ing with? Straighten it out. I want my six ($600) Monday.”

Federal prosecutors also introduced photos of Merlino and O’Nofrio hanging outside a Bronx restaurant where the FBI — unbeknownst to its guests — hosted a Dec. 8, 2014, Christmas party for more than 20 mobsters.

The attendees included “basically all the organized crime figures I was associated with,” testified Rubeo — adding that the FBI picked up the $25,000 tab.

“Skinny Joey” Merlino, a Philadelphia organized crime figure for the last three decades, stands accused of orchestrating a mob operation stretching along the East Coast from Florida to Massachusetts.

Rubeo, after his arrest in a cocaine-dealing scheme, flipped and began recording conversations for the government.

And Onofrio has tried to plead. He refused to admit he was a member of the Genovese family and the plea was scrapped.

Well in Merlino case it’s quite obv he’s guilty and he never left the mob
Gotti on the other hand was not on tape and actually did quit
Correct-a-mondo.. I think a NY jury might convict Merlino. I think he is dumb to go to trial. But hey he like the attention.
Bingo Rocco! He’s in love with himself. A fucking disgrace to old school LCN. This guy is a fucking asshole, I hope the Feds get this douchebag off the streets and he gets a long prison sentence that is “for good.” Either way, his life is shit.
I agree. He should get 20yrs just for driving around in a White Rolls without a legit source of income. Shit for Brains. Best he could come up with is working as a Hostess in a restaurant. Open a fucking business with your money. And he is upset he got arrested. So stressed hes got heart problems. What did he think LE was going to do ? Buy him and ice cream cone and say have a nice day Joey ? Some guys have it...some guys just don't...
How the hell do you know he has no legit forms of income? Have you seen his financials? He isn't being charged with tax evasionin and Merlino clearly has plenty of legitimately wealthy people around him.

In August, Don Michael Petullo, a former Las Vegas businessman who worked in the casino industry, registered a company, DNS Inc., at Merlino’s Boca Raton address.

Wether he's driving a Rolls Royce or Toyota Corrola the Feds are going to after him regardless.
He doesn't just the restaurant. Which is now gone. If he had a business in his name it would be all over the place and the news. Merlino prob hasn't filed a tax return since 1986...
What makes you say that? How many mob guys have there businesses info "all over the place and news"?
The way you talk, you just confuse him.

Joey Merlino faces chief accuser in Federal court

Image
Mob boss Joey Merlino is on trial in a Federal courtroom in New York.

The 55—year-old is charged in a multi-million-dollar health care fraud scheme and off shore gambling.

He faced his chief accuser February 1, FBI informant J.R. Rubeo, armed with secretly recorded audio and video tapes.

“How’s things? Good. How ya feeling? Good,” Merlino told FOX 29’s Dave Schratwieser.

Philadelphia mob boss Joey Merlino walked into a Federal court in lower Manhattan Thursday, bouncing back from heart problems and engaged in the fight of his life. Facing the FBI informant who’s looking to take him down.

“Any comment on Rubeo yet? Nah, can’t say nothing,” Merlino said.

Merlino listened in court as J.R. Rubeo spent his second day on the stand guiding the jury through audio and video tapes documenting Merlino’s alleged role in a big healthcare fraud scheme and off shore gambling activities.

“What do you think about the case so far? We got a good shot,” Merlino stated.

Merlino’s lawyer has told the jury Merlino was unaware that a multi-million-dollar compound pain cream operation he was involved in was illegal. Thursday, February 1, prosecutors played two dozen tape recorded conversations of Merlino and Rubeo in which Merlino can be heard saying he’s dead broke and 'I wanna get paid.'.

“So far on Rubeo what do you think? No comment,” Merlino said.

Rubeo, who’s admitted he turned informant to stay out of prison after a drug arrest, wore a wire on Merlino, who he called “the little guy,” for two years. Defense attorney Edwin Jacobs is itching to cross examine Rubeo about missteps by him and the FBI in this case.

“It’s a trial. We’re gonna try it in the courtroom, not in the media,” said Edwin Jacobs.

Finally, Merlino had one last word on the Super Bowl.

“The game on Sunday. Eagles. Win outright,” Merlino said.

Kinda funny that JR called Joey "The Little Guy" because that's what the Scarfo guys called Little Nicky. It's always been said that for as much as Joey and Scarfo ended up hating each other they were very similar in many ways, in terms of physical stature but also traits and the way they carried themselves and operated.

he did testify. Inzerillo

FBI Special Agent William Inzerillo revealed the spaghetti setup Wednesday under cross-examination at the racketeering trial of reputed Philadelphia mob boss Joseph “Skinny Joey” Merlino, who was among the hoods that stuffed their faces at the “Cosa Nostra Christmas party” in The Bronx.

“We supplied the money. We paid for the party. Over 20 people attended the party, and we paid for all of them,” Inzerillo testified in Manhattan federal court.
