Jerry Capeci and his sources

Would be interested to know who people think capeci’s sources are and just how accurate his info actually is . You get idiots on other forums and favebook groups spouting nonsense like . The real pro mobsters feed the law bullshit to throw them off the real track. Half the stuff Capaci writes is total bullshit because his sources were purposely fed this bullshit. Real knock-around guys won't talk to Capaci, and their lawyers, who do, feed Capaci bull to help their cases. I personally think capeci’s info is some of the best available , but I’m hearing more and more people say this negative kind of thing about capeci and his sources

Part of journalism is gauging the accuracy and reliability of sources. Real journalist don't just take what they hear and run with it. I think JC does a good job of corroborating his sources.

If you look at his track record, Jerry is 95% reliable and when he gets something wrong - he says it. Look at the Vic Amuso running the family from prison thing (he fronted up when he got conflicting sources), same with the Dom Cefalu/Frank Cali thing. There are a couple of little things he has gotten wrong, like how he describes certain guys or the titles he uses, but when it comes to hard facts he's usually reliable.

Yes, he said Peter Gotti is still the official boss of the family though it's in name only.

Capeci has stated in several interviews he doesn’t have any made guys as sources. He did in the 80’s/90’s have one guy I believe, but no buttons now nor for many years.

So I’d assume the vast majority of his info comes from LE.

Correct. He's never said the same thing about Amuso. The idea that Amuso is also just a figurehead has been merely the opinion of some posters.

Guys that have flipped must love reminiscing with someone who has current info so I'm sure he gets a lot of emails and phone calls from the good old boys that miss the life and want to talk.

Yes he has Pete Gotti as official boss and Cefalu as acting boss Cali as underboss, But has twice came out with articles saying Cali was the new acting boss, only to find out from different sources that Cefalu is still acting boss. He also said a panel of John Gambino, Juliano and Guirino were a buffer between the Administration and the Capos. I believe he also flip flopped on the Cefalu being Official Boss too, originally stating the Gotti era was over then saying that P. Gotti was still official boss.
