i just cant believe it. unless i have the crew lineage wrong, his nephew was running probably the most "street active" crew in all of Queens , a crew that he inherited from Asaro himself. So Asaro was just cut out all together? i thought his crew went to his son and later his nephew, unless his nephew's crew was different? either way, talk about a tough break. crying poor and scrounging for gas money when your nephew that you put in the game is living 2 miles down the street from you in a literal castle.

The "street active" crew you're talking about was not a crew that Giallanzo inherited from Asaro. Giallanzo formed that crew himself when he was still just an associate. After being straightened out in 2000, he was a soldier from 2000-2014. The only made guys in that crew were Mike Padavona (straightened out sometime in the 2000s), Mike Palmaccio (straightened out in 2013), and Nicholas Festa (also straightened out in 2013). Giallanzo inherited Vinny's crew in 2014, after his arrest.

thanks for the clarification. kinda confusing; asaro's son, giallanzo, and padavona were all capos or acting capos at one point AFAIK. i figured they all came from Vin Asaro's crew (even if they werent originally 'under' Asaro historically, i.e. Padavona) .

Giallanzo crew is/was probably one of the most profitable and active crews in the Bonanno crime family. Somebody must have taken over. The most qualified guy on the streets right now is probably Jack Bonventre, but he's too careful to want to get involved right now on supervised release. The crew was hit pretty bad but there are still a whole lot of young street guys active in the area.

A kid who was around and friends with the kids who did the torching (and bank robbery) was an Asaro and Giallanzo associate. He got caught after a string of SE Queens home invasions, supposedly ordered and/or blessed by Asaro and Giallanzo. First his cousin flipped, and he flipped shortly after. Borrello was his name, he was also “CW1” in the Giallanzo indictment. People mistakenly thought back in March shortly after Lovaglio flipped that the info came from him, but he was nowhere near these Howard Beach kids. It was Gene Borrello. People were writinb “rat” on Borrellos IG posts shortly before it became public that him and his cousin flipped.

I suspect but cant proove his co-operation may have helped along Gotti’s drug bust too. Theres a lot of young kids in HB doing dumb shit, aroynd either Gambino or Bonnano guys. Borrello was one of them, and knew a lot of people

I cant edit my post but I want to add, if you go back to the big Queens Gambino indictment of 2011-2012, LEO alleged that associate Todd LaBarca was “trying to recruit his teenage son and his friends into his crew” ... those teebage friends are more or less the kids involved with the torching, bank/note robbery, home invasions, drugs, and all the other super hot shit that led to people flipping and helping corrobate (spelling) indictments that were in the works (Giallanzo)

Its a small world, smaller neighborhood, and all these kids run together. I would LOOSELY call them associates in the traditional sense (like the debate on whether or not Gotti was an offical Bonnano associate). Kids who are surrounded by various LCN guys and were up to no good trying to make money basically.

Robert 'Bam' Cotrone, the Bonanno associate, loanshark, and auto body owner, was under Vinny and the two worked closely together. The 2014 indictment alleged that Cotrone was involved in loansharking, but Cotrone was also present for Vinny's 1990s chop-shop trial, and appeared as a witness in Vinny's defense.

Ragano wasn't hit with a ton of time, three years I think. Whatever the case, he was released from federal lockup on October 6, 2017. I don't think he is capo material. He mainly worked as an enforcer for the Asaro crew, collecting debts, roughing up, and frequently running to Vinny's aid whenever he got in a fight. Vinny was always telling stories to his cousin about getting into fights with random people in the street, and John running over and cracking some skulls.
Ragano is apparently connected to a group of home-burglars (it seems everyone is Howard Beach is), and that same group burglarized Robert 'Bam' Cotrone's house after the 2014 indictment. Apparently Ragano gave the go-ahead because Ragano, under Vinny & Jerry Asaro, had to look out and protect Cotrone on the streets (which was why Cotrone paid protection money to them). But after the 2014 indictment, Cotrone no longer paid any protection money so it was open season for Ragano to rob his house. No honor among thieves...

re: the text I bolded, I figured/guessed that those same kids (borrello and those two other kids) were involved with that robbery. kinda funny how much of a scumbag move that was. ragano was that guy's "strongman" on the street, and since he wasnt on the street, the guy has no "strongman"

i gotta read the original Asaro indictment again, I havent skimmed it over since it happened back in 2014. im sure there could be a couple dots that can be connected between that (and the wires from his cousin) and the most recent howard beach bonnano indictment
