If I remember correctly the feds "lost" the footage from the event, so it might just be overzealous prosecutors trying to scrape for some circumstantial evidence.. But not only was the street boss there, the underboss Ben Castellazzo and consigliere Richie Fusco were also imprisoned that same day, if that means anything.

Agree these have to be the 3 worst I've ever heard about but in both those scenarios at least you had a high ranking member conduct the ceremony and the initiate wasn't currently a confidential informant also as far as I know there is only audio and video footage of one of these as the cops erased the jail footage of the Colombo making ceremony.

Personally I find the Merlino making Natale ceremony to be the most ridiculous. Fratianno, Louis Tom Dragna and Bompensiero making Rizzitello in the car was pretty bad. And Fratianno wandering into the Calandra-Liberatore ceremony was also pretty embarrassing. Especially considering those last two were in the 1970s when in theory certain traditions should have held more importance.
