Actually difronzo stepped back from being the day to day boss because he just got out of prison in 93 or 94 and didn't wanna go back. His son died and he stepped in to help raise his grandson john difronzo III. Mid 90's Joey andriacchi was boss for a time and then john monteleone. Then it passes to various guys like marcello and sarno. This goes along with what magnafichi said about how the outfit dried up for him because difronzo was trying not to be involved directly in anything illegal and tried to take them away from a lot of traditional mob rackets. Sure he still profited greatly in this time and was on top of the outfit but only dealt with his brothers and a select few others and left the everyday boss stuff to someone elseSonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2017 9:32 pmJohn DiFronzo.Confederate wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2017 8:35 pmNobody in their RIGHT MIND would even WANT to be the top Boss of the Outfit because it is a SURE prison sentence.

That's the way I see it, Pete

5-10 years ago, people still wished there was an American Cosa Nostra, and they still missed John Gotti.Snakes wrote:At least it's been relatively civil. 5-10 years ago, 5 people would have been banned by now.

Tell that to John DiFronzo who has done almost no prison time.Confederate wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2017 8:35 pmLots of guys have flipped in Chicago. This "Only one member has flipped" is nonsense. Lots of "important" people have flipped in Chicago like Lenny Patrick etc. That is why Villain & Snakes can tell you the structure of the Outfit from years ago. If THEY can tell you, then the Feds can tell you.Pete wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2017 7:51 pm I think it's only more secretive because there has been only one member to flip. We didn't even know Chicago had a traditional making ceremony before calabrese. Also Chicago tried to keep the crews mostly separate they didn't tell everyone who was made and who wasn't. Calabrese said jimmy lapietra made a huge mistake because he told him about the 88 ceremony. He wasn't supposed to tell anyone there was a ceremony and who was made.
Not knowing a few details didn't stop the Feds from DECIMATING the Outfit in the 1990's. Nobody cared if the soldiers in a crew were MADE or not MADE or what year they MIGHT have been made. The Feds didn't need to know any of that bullshit in the 1990's to put ALOT of people in Jail.
Now, you have TWO HIGH LEVEL informants within what is left of the Outfit. Nobody in their RIGHT MIND would even WANT to be the top Boss of the Outfit because it is a SURE prison sentence.
Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
Uhh because they're lifelong gangsters & murderers? C'mon. The top spot in the Outfit is a license to do whatever the fuck you please & have people grovel at your feet & open doors for you everywhere you go. Johnny DiFronzo held the spot for a long, long time & has hardly done any time. Tony Accardo as well. Cerone, Aiuppa (save for the sentences when they were very old men) also hardly did any time. Giancana, Ricca, same thing. The boss of the Outfit is traditionally very well insulated.
Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
The Outfit dried up on Mike Magnafichi because he is an alcoholic & a drug addict. And he wasn't a big enough earner to where they would put up with his shenanigans (Marco D'Amico). His being shelved had absolutely nothing to do with DiFronzo "pulling back" (again, something that is so blown out of proportion). DiFronzo didn't try & take "them" away from anything. He became top boss, and Monteleone was street boss.Pete wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2017 9:42 pmActually difronzo stepped back from being the day to day boss because he just got out of prison in 93 or 94 and didn't wanna go back. Frank Jr. mentioned something to his father about trying to get something going with Magnafichi, probably involving sports gambling. Sr advised him to stay away from him.
Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
Yes Snakes I read that too. I think it was Antiliar that said they had no respect for Magnifichi
Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
Magnafichi was strung out on drugs & let his book go by the wayside so they just gave it to someone else. He also got taken & swindled by Hatch Chiaramonti. Him being shelved had nothing to do with DiFronzo "pulling back".

Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
It's so well insulated that Battaglia, Alderisio, Cerone, Auippa, DiFronzo, Carlisi & Marcello all went to prison. That's how well insulated it is from the Feds. Both Auippa & Cerone did 10 years in prison before dying. That's not "hardly any time". I think DiFronzo would rather live a peaceful life enjoying his family and money NOT in Prison rather than have people "grovel at this feet" or " open doors" for him.smoker wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 1:51 pmUhh because they're lifelong gangsters & murderers? Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
Out of the men you mentioned, only Aiuppa, DiFronzo, & Carlisi were the #1. And Aiuppa & Carlisi did time but it was toward the end of their lives. So my point still stands.
DiFronzo has always been a gangster. There is surveillance of him socializing with Albie, Sarno, Zizzo, & Panozzo in 2006. So the idea that he "refused to socialize with other gangsters besides his own crew" is total nonsense, not sure where it started.
Also, John DiFronzo is like 90 & senile. Not sure why he is even a topic of discussion, his career has been over.

Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
Not according to Villain & Snakes, Years ago they stated that Battaglia, Alderisio ( I believe) & Cerone were the top Bosses for awhile. In addition, Marcello was considered the top Boss for awhile and so was Sarno. I guess it becomes a matter of semantics about Marcello and Sarno if you still want to argue that they were not really the Top Bosses. Anyway, the POINT is that a lot of the #1 and #2 Bosses have gone to Prison and doing 10 years is a long time.smoker wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 3:22 pm Out of the men you mentioned, only Aiuppa, DiFronzo, & Carlisi were the #1. What surveillance are you talking about in 2006? None of the researchers have ever mentioned it.

Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
The very top bosses in Chicago from the 1950s on were:
Ricca
Accardo
Aiuppa
DiFronzo
Whoever it is now, maybe Andriacchi
Giancana and the others were the operating bosses. Some may say street bosses.

Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
Burnstein mentioned the surveillance in some of his articles. I would imagine that DiFronzo would not have been involved unless it was serious, i.e. whacking Tony Zizzo.

Re: Present Day Chicago Outfit
Matter of semantics. I mean for that matter, (using your philosophy) you could say nobody was the top Boss as long as Accardo was alive.
I see you left out Carlisi.
