Do we knkw who tipped off the fbi on the apartment ?

Great question Cheech. Some tv shows discuss Bruce Muow and others noticing Gotti leaving the side door to the ravenite and figuring out he had to be somewhere upstairs. Research then showed the caretaker's widow lived there. In one book it is reported the FBI found out about the apt via a very high and top echelon informant within the Gambino family.

The only thing that I ever saw in some documentary was that the FBI learned of it by observation. Whether that is what they wanted put out there or not who knows.

Yeah I read it was just audio surveillance , they would hear gotti and then they wouldn't hear his voice for a while , the Feds watching the building never saw gotti leave , so they knew he was having conversations somewhere in the building

At Mike Cirelli’s wake one of Mouw’s guys had a C.I (I believe it was one of Frank Spero’s informants, haven’t figured out who- at least yet) that overheard Gotti telling Norman DuPont to change the locks on the apartment door. They knew about the apt from informants but didn’t know Gotti went up there to talk, they certainly had no proof at this point.

Once Mouw heard this he pulled an informant’s 209 (a different Gambino) that said he heard Gotti uses an apartment to conduct important meetings, “somewhere in Little Italy but he wasn’t sure”.. this was all Mouw needed, and they went after Nettie Cirelli
