IMHO, with Carlo being old school, it was blood always first, and if for some reason PC was not available it would have been some other Sicilian...I doubt Dellacroce ever would have been made official boss as long as CG had a say about it. Then again, maybe Dellacroce never wanted to be boss and was happy running his regime as number two.

Going back to 67'....who was Carlo's inner circle besides Paul that could have stepped up to boss or at least acting if Carlo dies and PC not available? I suppose Dellacroce would have kept the seat warm for PC? If I'm understanding this right, since 67' it was always going to be PC stepping into Carlo's shoes and Dellacroce was technically never passed over. Making sense why AD was towing the line so well.

Now fast forward to Paul C. he was grooming that Toupe' you'd think being brought up under his own he'd be throwing his support behind Carlo's kid., another blood relative.
Jimmy brown Failla was acting boss for a while after carlo's death.

Failla was Acting UnderBoss from 1975-76 (Dellacroce was in prison). Never heard of him being the Acting Boss.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Yes Failla was only acting underboss for Dellacroce. Joe N. Gallo was acting boss after the Big Pauley hit. The Chin Gigante wanted to kill Gotti and have Failla take over as boss. Failla was on ruling panel after Gotti got busted and convicted.

Maybe he was acting underboss at the time of Gambino death, and was boss till Pauley was officially voted in.

But I don't think so because Paul was already acting boss.

As far as his roots in the organization, Dellacroce was a member of Rava's crew before his murder, right? Was Dellacroce a member/associate of the Rizzo crew before that? His brother Carmine was also a member and old enough to have been made by the time of the Castellammarese war but given their heritage hard to say if he was made that early.
Rizzo was capo before Rava? Did I understand you right? Anthony Rizzo?
Rizzo was an old timer from Palermo born in the late 1880s who could have been an early member of the D'Aquila family. He was definitely a captain for some period and I doubt he would have been promoted in the later 1950s given his advanced age at the time. My understanding, and JD or HK can correct me if I'm wrong, is that Rizzo ran a large crew centered in Brooklyn and that several other Brooklyn crews may have split off from this, or a couple members from his crew were promoted to captains of other crews. Again, I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Rava split off from the Rizzo crew, probably after Anastasia became boss. Don't take any of this as fact, though.

Rizzo's son and grandson, both named John, are of course well-known members, talked about by Gravano and DiLeonardo quite a bit.

Yes what you are saying is Interasting, I thought Rizzo became capo in '57 after the Rava crew split up but as you say he was old by than. Maybe Petey pumps got the crew back in '57, that's what I would like to know.

I remmeber HK talking about Rizzo sponsoring Rava to get made or something like that. Maybe he will tell us

Yeah, the succession topic on here says Rizzo took over for Rava in 1957 but Rizzo was ~70-years-old which was getting up there in those days and I believe Rava started as an associate of the Rizzo crew. I want to say that Rizzo kept his captain position through the 1950s though member(s) of his crew split off, but not sure if he was still in the spot at the time of his death in the early 1960s.

That was on gangsterbb and pure speculation from my part. No evidence of Rizzo sponsoring Rava into the Mafia. However, an informant makes it clear that Rizzo sponsored his son John.

And also...In 1975, Carlo Gambino was basically retired although consulted at times on Family matters. The Gambino Family was run by Castellano, Gallo and Jimmy Brown. That´s the exact wording from informant. Not sure if he meant that the Family was run by a three man committee or if it was run in the more traditional way. Dellacroce was out of the race. He had been strongly criticized by Gambino and fallen out of favor. Gambino called Dellacroce "cannon fodder". Read more here: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=221&hilit=lazio&start=50

That clears a lot of things HK. So it probably wasn't Carlo who made the inicial 10 guys, first 10 guys after the 20 year closed door?

Someone expendable. Someone you can sacrifice to the enemy and it doesn´t cause you any discomfort whatsoever.
