Three Plead Not Guilty in Gambling Operation
WTOV9
January 22, 2015

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – The three people arrested in connection to a gambling operation out in Jefferson County all pled not guilty Thursday morning. All of the suspects did have legal representation. Vincenzo Magnone, who is charged with gambling and operating a gambling house, was up first. He entered his not guilty plea through his attorney, Mike Nogay. Chad Fuller was next. He's charged with one count of gambling. Nogay entered a not guilty plea on his behalf as well. And finally Vincenzo’s brother, Angelo Magnone entered a not guilty plea to gambling and operating a gambling house. This all stems from a bust on a Steubenville club along Market Street earlier this month. "I think the good news for our citizens is that sooner or later, we will become aware of these locations and take aggressive action," Steubenville City Manager Tim Boland said. During the raid, the FBI, drug task force, and Steubenville Police removed thousands of dollars, betting slips and more. Officals say all indicators pointed to an illegal sports betting or book-making operation. The judge noted that there is no bond for the three men, and they should learn their next court appearance in the next two weeks.

The Magnone family were tied to Jack "Stoagie" DeSarro, longtime high ranking associate and major bookmaker for the LaRocca Family in Pittsburgh. DeSarro is in his mid 80's and his last bust was around the mid to late 1990's. The only made guys out of that region were James Vincent Tripodi and Cosmo Quattrone, both deceased and both from the same village in Reggio Calabria, Italy. Tripodi was retired by the mid 1970's and Quattrone was retired by 1983. Also, Silvio "Birdy" Pinciaro, who died in 1999, was a major bookmaker and high ranking associate of the LaRocca's but Pinciaro ran all gambling in East Liverpool, OH, another Ohio River town about 35 miles north of Steubenville.

Not these guys. But the Ohio River Valley was flooded with Calabrians from Western PA, WV, Northeast Ohio. ALL of the early Calabrian mob guys were tied to Calabria. Guys like Antonio Ripepi, Gianni "John" Bazzano Sr., Paul Romeo Sr., Dominic Mallamo, Michele "Old Mike" Romeo, Vincenzo Prato, James Tripodi, Cosmo Quattrone, Tony & Frank Milano. Truly a fascinating area to learn about.

**You will notice that Vincenzo Trepod, aka James Vincent Tripodi was tied to Italy as well as Steve Zoccoli in the San Jose Crime Family, Rocco Pellegrino in the Genovese Family in NYC, Tony & Frank Milano of Cleveland and Antonio Ripepi of Pittsburgh, men who are all born in Reggio Calabria, Italy.

It doesnt. Nor does it have to.

This is organized crime committed by Italians, specifically a family who was once connected to a traditional organized crime family. Hence the phrase "And the beat goes on" and Italian Organized Crime in the quotation marks.
