Here is the article daily news. Mafia turns scaredy-cat. By Thomas zambrito. This is about the Albanians and the gambinos at a gas station and Albanians threatened to blow up the gas station Arnold squitieri was on top at that time
I think most of us are pretty familiar with that and similar articles about the Rudaj organization. They were successful in taking over some Greek clubs in Queens that traditionally paid the Luccheses and forcibly shutdown a competing club the Gambinos opened in the area. The latter is what led to the meeting at the gas station in New Jersey. Keeping to their narrative of the new overthrowing the old, some articles made it seem like the Gambinos were the ones who backed down but, according to former FBI agent Joaquin "Jack" Garcia, the Gambinos outnumbered the Rudaj guys by a lot and that was the point at which the Albanians knew they had gone as far as they could. In any event, as said, the group was effectively dismantled in the 2004 indictment. While the group (which included some Italian guys as well) was pretty brazen, they were never remotely close to becoming a sixth family. And I've never been able to pin down exactly what made guy supposedly was stripped and thrown out on the street. Again, I'm not sure what Tommy Gambino you're talking about.
And Nighthawk makes a good point about Gene. You really think, after nearly 30 years in prison, he'd risk getting violated and going back to do another long stretch? That alone seems to make the whole conversation mute even if he did have the support.
There was some story about the Coletti & another member of the Albanian Rudaj group, beating up some elderly made man and throwing him in the street, stripping him of everything, I believe including his wallet. None of the stories I loosely remember reading about mentioned the elderly gentleman by name. But they did say he was an elderly old timer, and Coletti knew him from his days coming up as a knockaround, wannabe type. I've never heard of it being Tommy Gambino, nor does his name ever come up in the Rudaj Vs. The 5 Families stuff we typically read about.
One other thing no one has mentioned is that Gene could easily be put on trial for murders or other shit he did while on the streets. Now I could be wrong and the statute of limitations may have run out on some of the racketeering charges but he could be tried for the helping in the 3 bonanno capos murder. Pretty sure he was the one who disposed of the bodies.
Yep Sam if he was in on the conspiracy on the 3-capos they probably could go after him, but I think they already would have though if they were going to. Would make no sense letting him out then going after him as they could have went after him anyways while locked up.
Like has been said, no way Gotti is coming out of the pen and take over at any time. At this point he wants freedom and now that he'll have it he'll live out how ever many years he has left and live as a senior citizen. I think he could care less at this point about mob life. Too much has changed and 30 years in the can will change an old man on his last chance.
If I didn't have my case coming up, I would like to come back with you gentlemen when this is over with and really lay the law down what is going on in this country.....

Sometimes they wait until just before a guy is due to be released to hit them with new charges. There was a period a while back where they were doing that a lot. Though honestly I don't see it happening now. He has been in so long they probably forgot about him.
Though I should add that back in the early 2002/3 it was reported that Gene Gotti still had a big loansharking book on the street and that he was being considered for Consiglieri (even though he had been away about 15 years by that point with another 15 to go). So he was still very much involved back. Who knows now?

Yea those guys have long memories especially when your last name is Gotti. My money would be on them waiting for him to get out then hit him with charges. Who's left that could testify. Massino and Vitale ?
Thanks SonnyBlackstein for the +1 on my post and your feelings that I summed up Gene's situation perfectedly. Tbone- you been drinking too much sumucca and perhaps hitting the blow a little heavily. Your'e heavy hitters are more concerned with irritable bowel syndrome than doing hits in their late 70's. Gene Gotti and for that matter- John Carneglia are both finito in the Gambino or any other family now! The Gambino's are pretty much turning into a glorified street gang now. Tbone lay off the artificial stimulants you're using and start paying attention the NYNighthawk for direction and advice about the "life"!

Here is an interesting article from the NY Post in 2003, Gene calls Peter a fucking jerkoff and he should have kept picking up garbage cans.
The article does show the regard that Gene was held in. By then he had been away over 10 years and no longer had a top rank yet there were still several made guys visiting him.

Jesus Christ, that poor assed Peter Gotti gets no respect from Anyone!
You almost have to feel sorry for the guy.
Doing life and all you get in return is to be the laughing stock of the mafia. Some guys who've flipped get more respect.

Six months later, Gene Gotti bolstered the feds’ case by telling Frank Russo that Peter is in charge of the family – although Gene made it clear that Peter’s ascension came against his wishes.
Gene Gotti : As soon are you see Peter just tell him, here. Here’s eight for you, here’s four for Genie, four for . . . Tell him, I explained it to your brother
Frank Russo: You don’t need much of a f— big thing with him.
Anybody know who Frank Russo is? Possibly a made member? Back in the early 80's Joe Dogs Iannuzzi was assaulted by among others a Frank Russo that was an associate of Tommy Agro. Maybe it's the same guy.
