Front bosses
Upon going deeper into researching i have noticed the idea of a front boss has gone deeper then what i preciously thought where i believed that the Genovese Family had started it.
That MAY be true.... But.... Id like to know if anyone here can give other examples that they know of where a front boss was in place.
For example: thanks to Antiliar and THE INFORMER magazine we see that Lucky Luciano could possibly have not been the real brains behind the idea of the commision and ao forth.
Also thanks to Robert Saviano, author of GAMORRA, we see that the camorra has many front bosses...
So my question is, can we start a LOGICAL DISCUSSION over when the first front boss was put in place? As well as other front bosses that we assume may or may not be fronts?

Re: Front bosses
Thank you. Thats what i was looking for. Not just the first, bc im sure the first is long forgotten... But Just a discussion about other possible front bosses.Hailbritain wrote:I know he wasn't , but he was one of the first to use front bosses and panels if I'm not mistakenSnakes wrote:Ricca was not a front.
Just like in the new GL:

Re: Front bosses
But he didn't use front bosses either. Everyone knew Ricca and Accardo were powers, in addition to Giancana. Why use a front, then?

Re: Front bosses
Not saying accardo was a front but didn't ricca take a step back and let accardo run the outfit while still calling the shots from behind the scenes
Re: Front bosses
He wasn't behind the scenes, though. He (along with Accardo from the late fifties on) was recognized as the power by the authorities. Giancana was the boss, but Ricca was the boss of bosses. He met with other families and took part in sit downs. However, Giancana was the main conduit from the street and supervised all of the territorial bosses and effectively ran the Outfit as boss. It's a unique situation that's difficult to explain without going down a whole other rabbit hole.

Re: Front bosses
Okay... See here is the problem with saying front vs street boss....
Regardless of which term ld say Ricca qualifies BC from what it looks like he was a known power behind Nitti.
Same with how Natale was a front for Merlino.
As well as Philly has been said to be a front for Genovese family.
Colombo for Gambino.
Is there anymore that havent been mentioned yet?

Re: Front bosses
Genovese has been said to be the ones that pull the strings with Philly. Example: the whole bruno situation.
Gambino has been given credit with being the behind the scenes for Colombo. Read this weeks gangland.
In Italy, as saviano has pointed out, when bosses go to prison they use there wives to controll the syndicate still. Etc etc.
I have been reading more into the idea that Luciano was NOT the brains behind the commision.
And wanted to know more examples of the "real power" behind certain bosses. So... Maybe front or street boss is wronf term to use

I don't remember anymore where I put my files of "The Informer" I bought and downloaded, was it there where the idea was discussed I think? Could you remind me who is considered the real brains behind the commission according to the new information?JeremyTheJew wrote: I have been reading more into the idea that Luciano was NOT the brains behind the commision.
A very interesting reading, this journal, by the way.

Your very confused on how this all works. I'd say the only example you mentioned that is even close to a front boss situation is natale and merlino.JeremyTheJew wrote:Okay... See here is the problem with saying front vs street boss....

The information is new as of 1963 when Nick Gentile released his book.Dwalin2014 wrote:I don't remember anymore where I put my files of "The Informer" I bought and downloaded, was it there where the idea was discussed I think? Re: Front bosses
Jeremy the Jew......it is not an IDEA that Luciano didn't invent the commission it's a cold hard fact. 2 similar bodies existed prior to 1931. I'd normally say hey go out and buy this book that was released 54 years ago that will show this but you can't. No english version of Gentile's Vita Di Capomafia. It's possible that it was Luciano's idea to use the commission to replace the first amongst equals/boss of bosses position but really no one knows for sure.
