A Castellammarese War Timeline?

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
It wouldn't be a surprise he is wrong. He probably got his information from his uncle who got it perhaps from Lucky Luciano and they have other information from other relatives and friends and also they want only to believe good things about Toto Lo Verde so the conclusion becomes wrong.
I think it is clear these guys believe things about the history which research from you and others has proved them to be wrong.

No because Maranzano wasn't killed to avenge Masseria.B. wrote:Do you believe the war strictly ended when Masseria was deposed / killed, Maranzano held his banquet(s), etc? Or do you see Maranzano's murder and other fallout (i.e. LoVerde murder) as an extension of the war?
But something else: we have evidence of the mafia hierarchy dating back to Sicily since at least the 1870's. We also have underbosses, consigliere and captains before 1931. But look at what Gentile wrote:
Joe Valachi said the same thing at around the same time in the narrative (May-June of 1931). I think this is kinda similar to Jersey being the first and oldest family: there's evidence against it, but we have more than one source advocating it.As soon as he attained power, his prime concern was reorganizing the important Borgate of New York. As their Capo, he elected Rappresentanti who were devoted to him and whom he had already advised which posts they were to occupy, having accepted the condition imposed on them by Maranzano, who seen to it that everyone was bound to his will. There came to be formed these Borgate with their administration completed as: Capo, SottoCapo, Consigliere and Capi di Decina.

Are we talking about Joe the future boss Bonanno who was gunning for Capone? Wasn't Capone with Masseria or am I missing something?Chris Christie wrote:What date was Joe Bonanno arrested in 1930 as a Capone gunman?

It is a joke. Christie is refering to Bonannos book where he (Bonanno) says the papers refered to him as a Capone gunman when he was arrested.

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
There were some other deaths that happened after the C-War but may be related to it:
Ernest Rossi (April 17, 1931) - Known as "Hoppy" and an alleged underling of Frankie Yale. Born in Naples.
Saverio Pollaccia Masseria's consigliere who went to Chicago with Frankie Yale in 1924; disappeared 1932, Gentile says he and Vito Genovese brought him to Paul Ricca, who had him killed and buried the body somewhere. Sicilian.
John Giustra (May 10, 1931) - Known as "Silk Stockings" because he dressed well. Left coat in Nuova Villa Tammaro restaurant, found when police discovered Masseria's body; close friend of Carmelo LiConti and allegedly Al Capone; possibly a capodecina in the D'Aquila/Mineo/Scalise/Mangano Family and superior of Ettore Zappi, later a Gambino caporegime. Calabrian.
Carmelo LiConti (July 8, 1931) - Close friend of John Giustra and allegedly Al Capone, brother worked on the docks under Albert Anastasia. He was an undertaker. Calabrian.
Gerardo Scarpato (September 10, 1932) - Owner of Nuova Villa Tammaro restaurant where Masseria was killed; asked police to take his fingerprints in case anything happened to him, then went into hiding for a year and killed almost exactly one year from Maranzano's assassination. Born near Naples.

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
Joseph Pinzolo was killed by members of his own gang right? That being the D'Aquila group? As Pinzolo was a Masseria appointment, whom the gang wasn't very fond of. My memory is bad in this instance, but were the actual triggermen ever revealed by either of the three who spoke most about the war, that being Joe Bonanno, Valachi & Nick Gentile?

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
It was the Reina group. According to Valachi the killer was Girolamo "Bobby Doyle" Santucci.

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
Thanks for the correction. Don't understand why I confused the two.
Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
I think there's a possibility that Pinzolo was with the D'Aquila/Mineo group before Masseria placed him in the Reina group. Perhaps he assisted Mineo and Masseria in killing D'Aquila and replacing Reina was a reward.

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
Did Joe Aiello directly succeed Tony Lombardo in Chicago in 1928?
Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
Aiello, Lombardo's underboss, appears to have broken away from Lombardo as a rival faction, while Lombardo was succeeded by Capone puppets. So the timeline is like this:
Lombardo, k 1928
Pasqualino Lolordo, k 1929
Giuseppe Giunta, k 1929 (both Lolordo and Giunta were at the 1928 Cleveland meeting; after Lolordo was killed his brother fled to New Jersey and became part of what was or became the Elizabeth Family)
then it looks like Aiello replaced Giunta or still maintained his own faction when he was killed in October 1930
so Salvatore "Toto" Lo Verde either directly succeeded Giunta or Aiello. Whichever the case, he lost his position when Al Capone was recognized by Maranzano as the Chicago boss, and Lo Verde was killed in November 1931.

The Commission was formed in Sept of 1931 and Capone went away in Oct, who took up his seat?

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
Good question. People always say Frank Nitti, but was he considered "mafia" and allowed to attend Commission meetings? I think Ricca would've been more likely to have that connection.

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
I should have realized this is something people may not wish to go into. I'll list Paul Ricca.Chris Christie wrote:The Commission was formed in Sept of 1931 and Capone went away in Oct, who took up his seat?
Working on the chart, it got thinking about the Gagliano faction. Has anyone ever looked into whether or not it was a renegade faction of the Reina family or the entire family? If it was the former, there might have been the other side of the coin- a Masseria-aligned Reina Family faction that carried on after Pinzola's murder while the Gagliano faction went under Maranzano. Given how Genovese and Lucchese networks have always been very close, sharing of territory, up until the 1970's the FBI had a difficult time separating their crews from each other. I'm sure there were Reina members (who's membership may go back to when Morello was boss and were) OK with Masseria-Morello and didn't condone the latter's murder. If they existed in sizable numbers enough to constitute a formal Reina family, they would have had to vacate in 1931 for Gagliano to become official boss.
