Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
I recall this. Thanks. It really shows the "biggest war" for what it was: most hits aimed at the leadership, it wasn't exactly the movie 300. I wonder how this war impacted members on James Street, E13 St and Little Italy, they lived in areas with a diverse mafia conglomerate, if "killing your friends" ever became a widespread scenario this would be it and there seems to be very little evidence for it.Antiliar wrote:Here's the list, updated:

I'm going to chart the C-War in the way of a flowchart, beginning in Oct of 1928 with D'Aquila's death and concluding with the Commission formation at some point after September of 1931. The narratives of Valachi, Bonanno and Gentile will be of importance during this 3 year period. Chicago and Detroit factor in so will be included in some form. Depending on the legwork this may take some time.
Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
I have to say at the onset that a lot of these names are conjecture and they don't all fit into the traditional timeline. Traditionally the C-War ended on April 15, 1931, when Masseria was killed. Yet I included "Big Dick" Amato, who Valachi in his manuscript said was Ciro Terranova's top guy. Suppose not everyone accepted Maranzano as the new BofB? Suppose Maranzano had some revenge killings to take care of that were left over from the C-War? In that sense, these would be holdover killings that would be related to the C-War although not fitting in the time period.
Also, in this timeline, Gaspare Milazzo and Sasa Parrino would be the first C-War killings, although outside of Chicago (in Detroit). Masseria threatened to kill him if he didn't cooperate, and he was killed by Chester LaMare. LaMare may also have had his own motives, so we shouldn't discount something because there's more than one motive. According to Gentile, Capone was encouraged by Masseria to kill Tony Lombardo and Aiello as early as 1928, so it's possible we could stretch this thing that far back, except for the gap in the killings.
I skipped over the date for Benny Gallo, which was Nov 28, 1930.
Finally, Giovanni Torres, killed on March 28, 1930 (so before Milazzo and Parrino), was in my opinion not related. I think he was killed for other reasons.

You can also add the shooting of Paolo Gambino but I don´t know the exact date. It was in 1930.

You know, the narratives of Bonanno, Gentile and Valachi, when compared offer surprisingly very few contradictions in the timelines and most of it seems to fit with recorded events.
By any chance, do you know when The Gap got out of Sing Sing?

Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
He was paroled June 27, 1928 (from Sing Sing) and had numerous of arrests in 1929. I don´t think he was sent back to Sing Sing on any of these charges. I think he was found not guilty/cases dismissed.Chris Christie wrote:Thank you.HairyKnuckles wrote:Sept 16th, 1930.Chris Christie wrote:What date was Joe Bonanno arrested in 1930 as a Capone gunman?

Salvatore Lo Verde
Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
Lo Verde was killed two months after the C-War ended, so I doubt it was related.
Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
Do you believe the war strictly ended when Masseria was deposed / killed, Maranzano held his banquet(s), etc? Or do you see Maranzano's murder and other fallout (i.e. LoVerde murder) as an extension of the war?
Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
Gioacchino Pennino, pentito and his mother was Toto Lo Verde younger sister, said he was killed in the war between Massaria and Maranzano. I cant remember exactly now but he criticized Cola Gentile "Nick il Traditore" for telling lies about this matter.Antiliar wrote:Lo Verde was killed two months after the C-War ended, so I doubt it was related.
Re: A Castellammarese War Timeline?
I think Pennino has some of his facts wrong. There were people killed shortly after Maranzano was killed, like Sam Monaco, Luigi Russo, Siragusa in Pittsburgh, and Joe Ardizzone in California (possibly), but Toto Lo Verde was killed in November, so to me it seems that his death was more related to Chicago and Capone. Capone was already recognized as the Chicago rappresentante by Maranzano during a banquet, so Lo Verde was deposed. Lo Verde could have been demoted to soldier, but we don't know. Stefano Magaddino also talked about Lo Verde in the FBI transcripts.
