(The DeCav's are nearly finished) so Hit me! (Curious as to whether those Bedami's are connected with Stefano Bedami of the Newark Family.)

Ignazio Italiano was the first known boss of the Tampa borgata. According to informant Frank Bompensiero, his son Steve Italiano succeeded him. Scott had a different opinion based on his research, and he is the premier researcher on the Tampa.

I know Bomp said Steve Italiano made Santo Trafficante (Jr?) and Frank Diecidue in 1936,and that Traficante Sr was his underboss. Based on my research, Ignazio Antinori likely succeeded Italiano in 1930, after Italiano's death. Antinori was murdered in 1940,and succeeded by Trafficante Sr. Steve Italiano's name rarely came up in any of my research , apart from a few references of him owning a bar. None of the other FBI or FDLE (Florida Dept of Law Enforcement) files that I have list him as one of the old bosses. But that's the problem with a family that never had a turncoat!

Interestingly Ignazio Italiano had a another son, Antonio, who went to New York City after Santo Sr.s death (allegedly to complain about Santo Jrs rise to power), and was never heard from again.

Italiano was definitely the first boss of the Tampa Mafia.

The first real underworld leader in Tampa however, was Charlie Wall, who wielded enormous political and criminal power not only in Tampa, but across Florida, until the early 1940s when Trafficante Sr. pushed him out.

Yeah, but he was only tied to the Miami faction under Steve Raffa and came from NY so didn't have the depth of knowledge of the family's Tampa lineage. His testimony and information was really relegated to Miami operations in the late 1990s.

yes you are correct ,i think he was a jersey guy, bookmaker and in the trucking biz in fl. he flipped for a money crime i believe.

To SDeitche: Any books on the mafia, Florida or otherwise, in your future? I know you wrote definitive works with "Cigar City Mafia" and, especially, "The Silent Don," but it would be a shame if an excellent researcher such as yourself made no more contributions to that body of knowledge.
