Re: DeCavalcante Admin Succession
Nick Delmore, by the way, was born Nicolo Amoruso in Nicosia and was in Newark as of 1918. He was born in 1891.
Re: DeCavalcante Admin Succession
Didn't know that, very interesting! Consider me wrong about the lack of early DeCavalcante connections to Newark proper. Also worth noting that both Delmore and DeCavalcante are not from Ribera but still became bosses for a significant chunk of time. That doesn't take away all of the info about the prominence of Ribera in the family, but does add another layer of murk to things.Antiliar wrote:Nick Delmore, by the way, was born Nicolo Amoruso in Nicosia and was in Newark as of 1918. Something else I read is that Delmore and Majuri had gambling activities in Marlboro, NY. Coincidentally this is where underboss/acting boss Joe Miranda lived/lives. John LaMela also owned a sanitation business there where Miranda was employed.
Chaps -- thanks for sharing that. Delmore did apparently come out of retirement to become boss but that would be something if he had actually predated Amari as boss.
Re: DeCavalcante Admin Succession
I find this family's history and ties to be fascinating, maybe more so than the Bufalino's, San Francisco or Milwaukee. Great stuff, I remember reading Made Men, peaked my interest to say the least.

We don't have to come to a definitive conclusion, if there are several lineage possibilities we can present them all and explain why. Currently I have Pogo's succession. what other possibilities are there, with approximate years? We could delve into the Newark family and explain the conflicting beliefs with evidence/sources as to why and why not they were the same family or different networks. This chart may be slightly different than the others as it would contain more paragraphs and be laid out less definitively because unlike the NYC Families there are many uncertainties about before 1960.

Not that I am aware of. THe Bedamis came from Allessandria Della Rocca I believe.Chris Christie wrote:I'm glad to see you here, Scott. Your presence is much appreciated and I generally hope you stick around.
Is there a connection with Stefano Bedami/Badami and the Bedami's of Tampa?

Funny, I was just writing on this last night and added: “other individuals who were originally from Ribera, Sicily, moved to Elizabeth from the New York area.”B. wrote:Chris Christie wrote:Antiliar wrote:
There were Riberesi with well-known surnames in Elizabeth by ~1905. Phil Amari was there by the 1930 census, with an informant saying he came to Elizabeth from NY in the 1920s and brought others from Ribera with him from NY. Seems the family was there by the 1920s.
.
It says Amari came from NY prior to moving to Elizabeth. Any idea where he lived/when he came to NY from Italy?

Yeah, I thought we had a pretty good picture from about 1955 forward, but looking at notes now the 1950s still aren't that clear:Chris Christie wrote:We don't have to come to a definitive conclusion, if there are several lineage possibilities we can present them all and explain why. - Not sure if Frank Majuri was Amari's underboss, as Majuri was in prison from mid-1956 to late 1957 (was out in time for Appalachin). After Appalachin he was forced to finish serving the rest of his sentence until Spring 1959. So if he was underboss during that period, he was only on the street for a small part of it. He is listed as underboss under Delmore as of 1960 but was demoted not long after.
- LaRasso must have become underboss around 1960 and had it for a year or two. DeCavalcante got the spot in around 1961 or 1962 and seems to have become acting boss immediately.
- Joseph LaSelva is said to have been an underboss since at least Nick Delmore's time as boss.
- Never once seen a mention of consigliere during the 1950s or 60s. I know Rick saw info about Caterinicchio being consigliere (I believe in the 1960s).

It's from a 1925 passenger manifest. It gives a confusing address of 342 1st 48 Street, New York.sdeitche wrote: It says Amari came from NY prior to moving to Elizabeth. Any idea where he lived/when he came to NY from Italy?

I'm looking for that source and can't seem to find it right now. Did find something else interesting though. A Giuseppe Caterinicchia arrived from Ribera in 1907 to go to Elizabeth and stay with one Luigi D'Amico. Then went to Ancestry.com but didn't see any in Elizabeth, but did see a couple from Newark. Would be interesting if he was related to Gaspare D'Amico.B. wrote: - Never once seen a mention of consigliere during the 1950s or 60s. That makes sense. And I made a typo when I wrote "342" instead of "343".Chris Christie wrote:Filippo Bacino Arrived in USA 7/10/23 where he went to his uncle Carmelo Giaccobe, 343 E 48th St.Antiliar wrote:It's from a 1925 passenger manifest.
