Gambino Family Florida Crew?

Post by Raven »

I'm kinda confused and hope someone can clarify. When did the Gambino's get a crew in Florida. I read stuff about Terry Zappi and Silesi being Capo's there but it appears it wasn't until the 1970's. I know Silesi was in Cuba until Castro booted them. Was Zappi a Capo in NYC prior to Florida?

Florida Crew:
Joseph "Joe Rivers" Silesi (1960s-19??)
-Thomas Altamura (1960s-1967) Died.
-In 1980 this Crew was merged with the Zappi Crew

This is a chart set up by Pogo. I think since the 60s Gambinos had a crew over there. At least one. Some of the Zappi guys got with that crew. and Eddie Lino was later the capo of that crew. Dont know too much about it, and its very interasting to know. Corozzo, Artuso went to florida afterwards. I think HK, Pogo or from this forum will tell us. A lot of knowledge guys here.

Wasn't there a meeting in 1952 in the Keys that was under surveillance by the Feds that was attended by representatives of all five families where they discussed their ongoing operations in Florida?

Agostino Amato and his sons Vincent and Frank were longtime Gambino guys in Florida. Agostino was prevalent in the 50s and 1960s, Vincent in to the 70s and 80s. Both were very tight with the Trafficantes.

Agostino was involved in vending companies.

A 1967 Bureau airtel out of Miami said: Agostino Amato a "captain" in the above family (Carlo Gambino family) has two sons, Vincent and Frank Amato, who are buttons in the same family. Agostino Amato reportedly directs their activities."

Both Silesi and Zappi were identified as captains already in the early 1960s. But Zappi was based in NY at the time, while Silesi was based in Florida. An informant based in Miami, Florida said in 1964 that Silesi was "over any member of the Gambino Family residing in the Miami area." Zappi took over Silesi´s crew sometime around 1980 when he retired.

Possible members of Silesi´s crew were the Amatos (Agostino, Frank and Vincent), Tommy Altamura, Joseph Bisogno (former Dellacroce crew member), John Ignizio, Joe "Scooch" Indelicato, Vincent Palmisano, and Anthony Plate, All these guys resided in the Miami area at one point in the 1960s.

Silesi´s old addres was 265 Lafayette Street in the Manhattan´s Little Italy district. I think he ran gambling joints there in the 1950s before moving his interests to Cuba.

Nice to see you overhere Scott!
