William Cammisano Sr. took over for the Civellas in the early 80s. In 1991 Anthony "Tony Ripes" Civella took over. He died in 2006 as the last recognized Boss.

The remnants of the New Orleans family was wiped out in the big 1994 indictment. The last recognized Boss, Anthony Carolla, died in 207 but the family was gone by then.

The last recognized Boss of LA, Peter Milano, died in 2012 but the family was gone by then.

Cleveland - 1991 (you can even say 1983 or 1989 like Phat said)
Pittsburgh - 2006 (probably earlier like Phat said)
New Orleans - 1994
Milwaukee - 1997
St. Louis - 1997
LA - 2000s
Buffalo - 2000s
Kansas City - 2006
Tampa - 2000s
Bufalino - 1990s (though Boss Billy D'Elia continued to be active until 2006)
Rochester - 1988
Denver/Pueblo - Mid/late 1980s
San Jose - Mid/late 1980s
San Francisco - Late 1970s/early 1980s.
Rockford - Late 1980s
Springfield - 1974
Madison - 1973
Dallas - 1970?
Pittsburgh was still operating until Mike Genovese died. John Bazzano Jr, Pat Ferruccio and Sonny Ciancutti were still major gambling figures. High ranking associates like Bobby I, Frank Unis Jr, Lawrence Amodie, the Williams brothers (Sal, Junior & Gene), Jimmy Ameris, Manny Xenakis, Sabatini, Chris Hankish, John "Duffy" Conley...they were not the same family as the early to mid 1990's but Genovese still had a large weekly cut.

The federal government's hit list for the Mafia once included nearly 20 cities, but officials say they are close to crossing off Cleveland; Denver; Los Angeles; New Orleans; Pittston, Pa.; Rochester, N.Y.; San Francisco; San Jose; St. Louis and Tampa. 'We still have powerful La Cosa Nostra families in New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston and south Florida," said Paul Coffey, who heads the Justice Department's organized crime division. He added that no major Mafia family 'has been completely eradicated.'" (Washington Post, 1992)

Interesting that they list the same families that are still around today, nearly 25 years later - New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and South Florida (where the NY families are active).

Obviously Dallas was already written off by that point. As well as most of those areas where it's not clear if there was an a family there. Some of those other families hadn't had significant activity for a decade or more by that point. There was some residual activity by some of those families almost ready to be written off after 1992 but not much. Probably the most significant were the cases where remnants of the Tampa and New Orleans families partnered with the NY families.

That leaves Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Kansas City.

In hindsight, you can write off Milwaukee by the early 1990s. The last case I'm aware of was in the mid-1980s. Kansas City had some resididual activity in the 1990s, as well that relatively small bookmaking bust in 2006. I think the last significant cases involving Buffalo (Local 210) and Detroit (GamTax) came down in 1996. Some residual activity by those families into the 2000s. The 1990s also for Pittsburgh, with some residual activity into the next decade.

In regards to Pittsburgh, here is some info:

Thanks for posting... one of the Marcello siblings married into a distant relative of my family and Carlo Montalbano is also distantly related. Makes me think that most of the Marcello crime family were related somehow

If New Orleans died out in 1990 then that family was 140 years old. When discussing the heyday of families, NO falls outside of that realm as it was most dominant BEFORE New York City became the epicenter of the AM in the USA. While we'll never have a tally of members that far back it connected the USA to Sicily and to South America.

I would add a few names to you list.

The Liberto Brothers Frank and Sal. Frank was Made and operated out of Memphis. It's unclear if Sal was actually made but he was def. connected.
There was a Jack Liberto as well but can't connect him to the above brothers or find much info on him period.
Nick Nuccio
Thomas "Tony" Catalanotto
The Bonura brothers - Joe, Phil, Nick.
Sal Marciante
Joe Pecararo
Saia brothers, Sam and Frank
Mario Marino - Las Vegas
Nemo Nolte
Jerome Pepitone
Jake Natasi
Sal LaCharda
Sam Termine
Sam LaBruzzo
Nick Graffignini
Sal and Anthony DiPiazza - father and son
Joe Capro
Nunzio Mustachia
Anthony Ranzino
Lorenzo Marino
Vince Misuraca
Vince Anfara
Anthony Bono
Ernie Calogne
Vic Carona
Dom Castigliola - seemed to operate from L.A and N.Y
Nick Christiana
Carlo Roppolo

These were all guys in the Family at that time period but a lot of them were up there, a good bit of 'em dying off in the next decade or so.

If all these guys were made NO would've had over 50 made members, far more than previous estimates.

There were. Problem is that NOLA kept things quiet. Good for them, bad for people like us. Some of those guys I only have one source on. Many I have two, some of them have multiple sources. Most of those guys were up there in age by '68 though and many would die off in the next few years. Probably two thirds would be gone by mid 80's.

Just a small KC correction, the gambling bust was in 09, Tony died in 2006.

There several webpages that I've seen that claim all sort of large numbers for NOLA, but with no documentation to back it up.
