LOL...I'll guarantee if Charlie Imburgia or Tony DelSanter were alive, this mayor wouldn't have been indicted. And his ass would have been paying them a hefty price for a gambling operation. It never ends in NE Ohio

In the mid-70's there was a new building on the corner of Robbins and E. Park in downtown Niles where they had a barber shop on one side and a walk-in book-making store on the other side complete with a betting counter and large black-board with the daily numbers on it.

Years ago there wouldn't have been any indictment or charges. This is the best that they can do. It is a waste of everyone Time and Money. Pathetic - this is what they think real crime is about.....

My thoughts are that he had the help of Niles Police and the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department. There is NO WAY he could have gotten away with this for so long without any help. I'm sure some court officials were also in on it.
It also makes me wonder if the raid on Nannicola Bingo Supply had anything to do with these charges?

the gambling was A side indictment which i agree is a waste of time . the other charges alleged He was stealing money from the city which should be looked into. This is why they need term limits on small town polititiansFriendofFamily wrote:Years ago there wouldn't have been any indictment or charges. This is the best that they can do. Must have been using city funds as his book bank...he's well liked but this is just pure stupidity in the year 2016....especially in the Greater Youngstown area where political corruption has been a way of life for over a centuryStroccos wrote:the gambling was A side indictment which i agree is a waste of time . the other charges alleged He was stealing money from the city which should be looked into. I think the bit about Public Corruption doesn't really phase me because I am in Chicago with Institutionalized Public Corruption. For every Alderman you put in Jail there are 40 lined up to take their place. That is just an example of a Public Position not to mentioned regular Government Workers. So for Niles to have this go on isn't really all that much.
I would periodically try to expand my business into Niles, mainly because of the Ohio Edison Plant there. There was always a little more push back. My plan was not to really push that hard until I could land a major Contract in that Area and that didn't happen.
Later when I worked for another Company instead of for myself, We started dabbling a little over that way and it wasn't really all that by then in the areas that we wanted.

FOF,
Did you happen to know Paul Lamongi? AKA Paul La Monge?

You may already know that a substantial cash payment was made to a high ranking Niles City official by a local developer to have the Eastwood Golf Course annexed into Niles from Warren because Niles operated their own Ohio Edison plant

Paul La Monge
I had heard of him but that's about it. My wife would have met a lot of Restaurant and NightClub and Bar people in that Area. While she was dating Tony DelSanter she worked for Joe Shannon the owner of ABC Computerized Liquor Dispensers and later Rockne's franchises. My Wife talked to Tony and said none of the Owners wanted to meet with her. So all of a sudden she had this big demonstration with ALL these Bar, Restaurant people in this demonstration Van and they were all wearing Black and had their Hats on etc. She told me they didn't look too happy being there but they HAD to be there. She is better telling the story than me but it is a very entertaining story to say the least.

Ohio Edison:
I already had two Ohio Edison Plants in Akron the Gorge Power Plant and the Beech Street Steam Plant -- I had those by the age of 20 - pissed off a lot of people but hey too bad. Niles was the next in line for me. Then the Lorain Plant would be the Next one.
The Niles deal was involving vary different types of people and trying to coordinate and seeking permission and all the other things because I was also working on the Garbage Contracts and working with them to use their Transfer Stations so money would flow to the proper people etc.

Paul La Monge? I only knew the City Solicitor, most influential man in Niles at that time, that took the cash and the developer that gave the cash.
