Montreal tried to form their own family in the 1960s
Second paragraph on the attachment. Thought it was interesting that they sought to break off during the Bonanno war.

Is there anything describing what side the canadians were on during the split?
I always assumed they were with bill bonanno. Bc of the known meetings with him.

They sat it out, meaning they didn't choose a side. Theres another snippet of a transcript that was posted in the older Montagna/Sciascia/Montreal thread that I would comment and argue with guys in when I first joined here. I don't remember who posted it, may have even been B., but it says something about Luigi Greco and implies how NY allowed them to do their own thing for the timebeing with the deal that whomever was in place as boss when the war was over, they'd answer to. I'll try to find it, hopefully someone knows what exactly I'm referring to though.

Re: Montreal tried to form their own family in the 1960s
There is a transcript from 1965 on Decavalcante and Frank Majuri discussing the Commission chopping off the Montreal and Arizona crews away from the Bonannos. The Commission had met and decided that the Montreal crew would end up with Magaddino and the Arizona with the LA Family. This never materialized because, just like B posted above, the group in Montreal chose to stay with the Bonannos. But it´s interesting that just like in regular wars between countries, territories and interests are sometimes carved up between the winning factions in a Mafia war. At least that was the plan in this case. No doubt Bonanno was cornered but the threat of huge terrirories taken away from them, it´s understandable why JB´s faction was willing to take up arms.
The Montreal faction, although not directly involved in the war, was leaning towards supporting JB it seems to me. The Arizona group was definitely supporting him.

There you have it, never printed before.

Also looks like John DiGilio was an associate of Joe Bayonne and the Bonanno family first but eventually got made with the Genovese family thru Patty Mack.

Pasquale Macchiarole was a Genovese member who was killed in the 70s. He is briefly mentioned up top.

Yep, they were represented at meetings by Frank LaBruzzo. They weren't actively involved much in the politics but definitely recognized Joe Bonanno as the official boss and maintained contact with his faction through most of the war.HairyKnuckles wrote: The Montreal faction, although not directly involved in the war, was leaning towards supporting JB it seems to me. He was a Genovese Capo who was jailed in the early 90s. He died in 2009 while in prison.

Thought you guys might be into the bit about DiGilio. Curious if him going to the Genovese family was a result of the Bonanno war and Zicarelli's temporary responsibilities with the administration, or if it just coincidentally matched up to that period.
