I'm almost certain that the black guys involved in that case, are the only ones who haven't flipped. FOH would know more, but I recall reading that, and that they're still in prison as a result of Strollo's testimony. Anyway, back on topic, hasn't the families, NY specifically had lower ranking associates whom were minorities in the past? Mostly Puerto Ricans and Hispanics at that. And as Pogo said before, just recently we have a case of a mob family using Crip gang members to carry out a hit on another mob guy. There's also the hit on the dude from "Purple Gang", whom was murdered by a black guy, and that case seems to have been very mob connected. So this wouldn't necessarily be a first, as far as this era of Italian Crime Families go. And as said also, he was arrested by members of the Bonanno/Colombo Squad, so they have to have something there that's connecting this guy back to a specific Crime Family.

I'm assuming the hit had to do with something concerning the colombos considering their connection to Spumoni in general with the whole relation to big frank. But this is all just me speculating . Could have nothing to do with anything

Jeff Riddle and Lavance Turnage were the black guys you mean, along with Bernard Altshuler.

Or, as a Strollo associate memorably put it at the time: "These fucking guineas all snitch on each other! The only ones who didn't rat were two shines and a jew!"

Thanks Ivan, I didn't recall the names.I should've mentioned Altshuler as well. But back on the subject of families using minorities for hits and even some of those minorities being actual associates of the Criminal family, another example is the Springfield Genovese, with the case of Anthony Arilotta and the Adolfo Bruno murder, the hitmen, I believe were two mixed guys, black & greek. And these two were actual members of Arilotta's crew, I think.

Probably not minorities but recently the DeCavalcantes tried to use some bikers for a hit on a made guy. It never got off the ground though.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

bronx wrote:If he was sent to hit the pizza guy by anyone in O.C. and was caught on film knowing he is going to get pinched or high risk of getting pinched they would have clipped him already so he can't give up the people.. so either the mob has zero to do with him or the guys who sent him are pure dogs, first for sending a puerto rican to do work for them , then not clipping him after he screws up and shows his face on a hit.
yep...back in the day...... today not so much,

yeah bikers aka undercover fbi agent.lol downfall of guys who get out of jail after a long stretch they are easy targets for the feds because its easier to stick unknown guys around them because they are broke just coming out of jail and most the people they know well are long gone...

do we think the feds are holing something something back ,? the feds are sticking with the robbery motive claiming he was at the pizzeria scoping it out a few hours before the hit went down. They also pinged his cell phone locaction to show he was near the joint. I think the feds let this guy hang on the street and knew who he was rather quickly as the car used in the hit was registered to Fernendez . TO see if he had any OC connections.

I have to imagine he is just a junky that got wind of when this guy takes cash home. He probably knew someone that worked in the kitchen there. That person is probably also a junkie. If it was OC would they really use a well known drug addict to pull off a hit...?

Pretty much everyone flipped or plead out (well except for... two shines and a jew). JCB or FOH could probably give you a complete list.

Andres is typically not a PR name, but rather Castilian Spanish. We'll see what shakes out. PR or not, he could also have been a regular associate.

Thanks Stroccos, that's actually the exact article where I got that "two shines and a jew" quote from. I couldn't find it.
After the trial, one longtime Strollo associate finally said what nearly every observer noticed, but virtually no one was willing to mention publicly.

"These fucking dagos snitch on each other," he complained over coffee in Little Italy. The only ones who didn't cop a plea, he noted bitterly, were "two shines and a Jew."

Long Island man indicted for killing Brooklyn pizza shop owner during robbery attempt

A month after federal prosecutors nabbed a Long Island man for the murder of a Dyker Heights business owner, the case was transferred Monday to state court.

Andres Fernandez was indicted for the murder and attempted robbery of 61-year-old Louis Barbati, the co-owner of L&B Spumoni Gardens.

“We allege that this defendant was lying in wait outside the victim’s home, then ambushed and shot him to death in cold blood. This was a calculated and senseless murder of a beloved business man and I intend to prosecute this crime to the fullest extent of the law,” said Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
