Was thinking the same thing.
Was he Italian?

Re: Chucky Porter dead
He was Italian on his mother's side, and that was enough for Pittsburgh to bend the rules and make him.
Re: Chucky Porter dead
His uncle & grandfather were old hatchet men in the early days. Last name was Gialanella. Michael Gialanella was a big time numbers operator who ran his operation at 52 Chatham Street, which was a hub for Italian immigrants and black hand activity in the very early days. He earned more $$ than any other member in a 50 year period.

Re: Chucky Porter dead
Another one who was Italian only on his mother's side and may have been made was Louis Campbell of the Philadelphia family. He shows up on most 1960s lists as a made member though I've never seen info where an informant specifically says "Louis Campbell is made." He was Marco Reginelli's driver and a major force in Camden in his day who associated entirely with the Italians and married an Italian. He was direct with Reginelli and after Reginelli's death I believe he was under Skinny DeTullio, whether as a member or associate. His father also had the name Campbell... unfortunately I can't find more info on the father and whether he adopted an Anglo last name or what the story is. He may just have been an associate who was mistaken as a member because of his key role in Reginelli's inner circle.

Albeit...but he never testified against anybody...ever. Having said that, he led the FBI to Sonny Ciancutti's gambling operation when he got pinched in 2000 and also led the FBI down the road for Youngstown and the Rincon Indian Casino bustout.FriendofHenry wrote:phatmatress777 wrote:Porter was an interesting character in the obituary it said how he saved mobsters lives by alerting of the authorities of hits one of those Phil leonetti
