Among other things, Lee told Massino that Basciano had requested to kill captain Patty DeFilippo, soldier Frank Coppa Jr., soldier Joseph Lino, and the parents of Joseph D'Amico.
Man Basciano was really blood thirsty during his short run as Acting Boss. He was also plotting to whack Mikey Mancuso, Cicale's wife/girlfriend and the prosecutor going after the Bonannos. Didn't he also plot to whack that judge? The only hit that got off the ground was the Randy Pizzolo hit. Plus Dom Cirillos kid but that was after he was locked up I believe.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

They specifically say all of those guys listed at the Gotti party were Bonanno members, so I am guessing they are either referring to Bonanno soldier Joseph Messina or mistook the Gambino Messina for a Bonanno member. They do have Massino's name correctly everywhere else so if they were referring to him being there obviously it was a mistake, both in spelling and the fact that he was in prison.JD wrote:Good stuff B.
There was a Gambino Soldier also named Joseph Messina, probably him. Massino went to prison January 1987.B. wrote: - In 1994, soldier John Zancocchio was investigated for his organized crime links and kicked out of the Teamsters. Zancocchio was said to have attended John Gotti Sr.'s 1988 Christmas party along with Joseph "Messina", Sal Vitale, Frank Lino Sr., and James Tartaglione. I thought Massino was in prison by this time but honestly my timeline for when Massino was on the lam / in prison might be off -- can anyone clarify exactly when Massino was off the streets? Given the spelling it could also refer to the Bonanno soldier actually named Joseph Messina but that seemed unlikely to me given the other attendees.
..
Does anyone know if Michael Sabella was part of the Graziano crew or otherwise had a reason to be connected to Zancocchio?

Seems like some of these contracts may have just been Basciano thinking out loud, hard to say. Supposedly the Coppa Jr. and Lino one was proposed during late night meetings Basciano was holding as acting boss and he later told Lee about it, but as Lee testified, Basciano also shot the idea down at some point because Coppa Jr. and Lino were still loyal soldiers.
Massino claims that Tommy Lee brought him these messages from Basciano, Basciano later denied it (except for the DeFilippo contract), and Tommy Lee's testimony seems inconsistent, so it really comes down to who you believe.

Maybe it's John "Beansie" Campanella, Jr? He was busted in one of the big mob cases around 2000 and was named as a Bonanno soldier.JD wrote: Re Joe Beans, there's an article online about the Antico case that mentions "Bonanno family figure 'Joe Beans' Campanella". It's on the SI Live news site. Also an obituary for someone with that name and nickname from 2007. Only non-google info I've seen is some Gambinos meeting with a 'Beansy Campanale' in Fall 1986.
His father John Sr was also named as a Bonanno soldier. At the time he lived on Staten Island.

I really think it is Ganci. Another candidate could have been Giuseppe Bono, but everybody called him Pippo not Pino or Pinuzzo. While Ganci was actually nicknamed Pinuzzo
Re: Bonanno Info (1980s - 2000s)
I was having a look on all the 70 photos I got of Pippo Bono's wedding. I am sure Cannone and Ferrugia should be both there but I just can't identify them.
anyway there should be news on Catalano soon...

Re: Bonanno Info (1980s - 2000s)
I can say with 100% certainly that during that time period before the bust you rarely, rarely saw Catalano without Gangi. They were joined at the hip. he referred to him as Pino or Pinuzz.....

Re: Bonanno Info (1980s - 2000s)
Has anything else come out about the alleged conspiracy between Vitale and Gotti to take out Massino in the early 90s? I believe Massino testified that Bellomo told him about this while they were locked up together, at which point Gotti was dead and Vitale was off the streets, possibly already flipped, so not sure what Bellomo's motivation would have been or how he would have learned this information. It strikes me as classic Genovese manipulation but for what purpose I don't know. Hopefully Massino has elaborated on this somewhere.
In Tartaglione's testimony at the Sciascia trial, a statement was made that Vitale would “stop at nothing and take anybody out of the way that was close to Joe Massino”. I'm not sure the full context for that comment, but the wording is interesting. It's not related to the Gotti situation but implies that Tartaglione believed Vitale had his own agenda against other Massino loyalists.
How about Massino's take on why Vitale was phased out from the family in all but title beginning in the later 90s? I feel like there is more to that story that hasn't been fully explained.

Yeah he floated that. Imagine if the Bonnanos had gone down that road in 2003? It would have brought a lot more heat for sure but it also would have made the mob feared again and madeevery potential informant think twice before flipping.

B not sure if your are making this assumption but if so I agree with you... you figure if the Bellomo/Vitale story is true Massino must have heard about it at some point.. maybe that's why Massino initially started to treat Vitale like shit in the 90's... which would probably benefit the Genovese in some way.. interesting to think about
Re: Bonanno Info (1980s - 2000s)
Sorry dumb post, Massino obviously heard about it via Bellomo, do we know when Bellomo told Massino? Was it prior to Massino treating Vitale like shit?
