I would guess that Merlino will be tempted to take this to trial given his charges are conspiracy, gambling, and fraud, Jacobs is arrogant like that. He wasn't mentioned in relation to the credit fraud, weapons trafficking, extortion, assault conspiracy or the arson charges. Jacobs will probably try to sever him from with New York guys.

This is a weird scenario Merlino is in and the only guy from Philly ???..Tanglewoods and the Westside plus a couple other NY families ..aging cream or pain cream what ever the the scripts where for , They got Merlino as a leader of this East coast Enterprise wherever they got that NEW JUMP OFF from , “And Merlino worked together to engage in a multitude of criminal activities throughout the East Coast of the United States between Springfield, Massachusetts, and Southern Florida.”and he did it with out any help from anyone from Philly even Wags aint mentioned Joey's right hand man , This don't pass the smell test sounds too contrived to me,

If there where wires on the U.C. agent and C.I .they would have more guys that would always be around Joey, I am sure he is very cautious after all the the time he did and the Nicky Skins Stefanelli tape debacle, I am dying to see what they have

Some of the wording is strange even though none of it was really any different than we've seen in plenty of other cases. Mainly a Genovese case with some guys from other families involved. Not nearly as rare as some news bits make it sound. Most of it in New York but also extending to areas where one or more families are active, ie New Jersey, Massachusetts and Florida. Ironically enough Merlino, the one Philly guy, gets most of the attention.

If you remember back, it sounds a lot like Patsy's last go-around.
There was a CI, and an undercover, and a lot of little predicate acts including gun running and gambling. I don't remember if there was overt violence in the last one, but this one has all of that with the added sexiness of an out of town other family boss, which gets the press all excited.
The Bronx guys are all still locked up in the MCC and with the violence charge, might not allow them to be granted bail. The scary thing is that the gov't is going after assets in this case.
I'm very interested to see who the CI is....from the indictment it was somebody very high up with pretty much unlimited access, and the complaint goes back 5 years. Seems pretty crazy.

Jacobs is prob one of the best money can buy... It's very possible that merlino can beat them.

I have my own asshole theory based mostly on who is not named in the indictment and my own knowledge of growing up in that area.
That being said, I'm not gonna go out there and say anybody is a rat without substantiation, even if this is only an internet forum.
I'm sure at this point those guys in the MCC know who CW-1 is.
I guess time will tell.

I am sure every one of those guys arrested know who the rat is. More then likely they figured it out and that's why they wrapped up the investigation pulled the rat in and made the arrests. Merlino was already trying to figure out who was a rat. But I am not shocked the guy was arrested already. I thought it would happen sooner. He just cant lay low..he is a flashy guy and it put a bulls eye on his back.

You're right Rocco....I was looking at the pics of him in the Bentley on the other site and saying to myself "what's wrong with this fucking guy, can't he just lay low, do his shit on the DL, make money and not be an asshole, and not totally rub his thumb in the eye of the Feds?"
But apparently the answer is no.
In the end, he's probably gonna spend most of his productive years in the can.
Guys will do all kinds of calculus to say "I would do so many years for so many dollars" but my answer has always been why do any years?......make as much as you can legitimately and tell everybody to go fuck themselves and not be beholden to anybody.
If you have the smarts to be a wiseguy, you have the smarts to be a legit guy, and then some.

Idc what anyone says I know a lot of people hate merlino but I love him he is who he is he fought to get to where he got to and he lives life the way he wants . He doesn't hide from anyone and challenges the feds. Not many people even New York wise guys have lived half the life Joey has. A lot of wire tapes lately have caught New York wise guys being brokesters, and yes everyone knows that philly is not New York but how many reports have we heard of philly mobsters being broke. They don't have tons and tons of rackets like they used to or like nyc does but what they do have they utilize to the fullest extent.

Looks like Scotts reports about an indictment coming down on Merlino, proved to be correct. Interesting that this seems to be a operation that consisted of multiple families, through the members involved. Also seems like, atleast according to the early indictment article (haven't read through all these pages yet), Merlino was the only Philly guy nabbed in this bust. Considering he's supposedly the official boss, it doesn't seem right for a boss to be indicted with a bunch of capo's, soldiers and associates from other families.

I was thinking this operation was kinda like a concrete club deal that involved different higher ups from the different families. I think that's where this east coast costra nostra enterprise stuff is coming from. It's possible that merlino shielded his own guys from the ci as well. I doubt the ci came from Philly and if there were other philly guys involved they were only going through merlino
